I'm looking for seeds for Lemon Savory, Micromeria biflora. Have tried Richters, Companion Plants, Mountain Vallery Growers and others. Richters does have the plants, but I would prefer the seeds. Anyone on here have some to share or know where I can find them?
Thanks, Jeane
Lemon Savory Seeds
Jeane, www.thymegarden.com has lemon savory seeds. This place is great! And, most of the herb packets are just 1.85.
Thanks, I had a hunch you might know. I've already ordered the seeds...and a few other interesting things! They have a great selection.
I can not be held accountable for the lowering of your bank account. On the other hand, I'm happy to think that your herb garden will be expanding! I think lemon savory is one of the best lemon herbs out there.
I did grow it many years ago. Love it. I'm growing it by a friends request this year...who knew it would be so hard to find! Bought some things I wasn't necessarily intending on growing this year...but my plants may be traveling to our HSA regional convention so want an extra good selection.
I was asked to give a lecture at the HSA annual meeting in Michigan this year, but I wasn't able to make it. What are your plants doing at the regional convention, getting educated?
HerbalBetty...glad you think highly of Thyme Garden. First ordered, first heard of them in fact, this month. Their Corsican Mint germinated in 4 days! TG sent a lot of seeds and the price was great.
But I was still wondering as hop rhizomes will ship from Thyme next month. Getting a bed and trellis set for hops is a fair amount of work and I'm counting on TG coming through. From what you say, I don't have to worry.
David Paul, we ordered hops from them last year. They arrived in excellent shape and grew well, despite the 2nd rainiest summer ever recorded for this area. I've been a customer for several years and have always been more than pleased with everything I ordered.
Betty....Do you recall when your hops were shipped ? Did you get many cones the first year?
I want to say our hops were shipped in April, but I can't guarantee that! I know we kept them in the fridge until we could plant them out. Last year was the second rainiest year on record here, so no cones. Our other hops plants haven't taken long to produce. I'm sure this year these hops will do well.
Hi Betty, I'm helping a friend give one of the workshops at the HSA meeting. A woman I'm wholesaling to this year is probably going to be a vendor there. Which saves me from signing up to be a vendor...will offer to hellp her, but really just want to go enjoy the event.
David_Paul, I've been growing hops for years. Keep in mind that once you have hops, you HAVE hops. They run everywhere. It generally takes two to three years to produce cones.
I ordered the Corsican Mint from them too. Glad it did so well for you.
Jeane, what's your workshop about?
Jeane and Betty....do you grow hops for brewers or other uses?
I've read about hop wreaths but never found even a very good photo of one.
Thyme Garden's Corsican Mint surprised me. Read it could take weeks to germinate. Perhaps that is outside? Below are mine tonight, 16 days after planting those difficult-to-see seeds:
My DH is an award winning home brewer, but he hasn't made any beer in years! At our last garden, we grew hops which he used in beer. Now, I use our home grown hops for tincture.
We moved here 3 years ago, the hops I moved bloomed last year, but I don't have enough yet to do much with. Haven't gotten into home brewing, even though DH loves his beer! I use the cones in sleep pillows and other things. I have a good friend who, with her DH, puts out a beer magazine you might like: http://michiganbeerguide.com/beerguide.asp
It isn't 'my' workshop. My good friend, Judy Cornellier, is doing a workshop making pressed flower books. It requires some extra hands-on in bigger groups and I've done this one with her before. We enjoy doing lectures of all kinds together. It's fun to play off each other. Did one together on growing herbs last spring. I let my membership in HSA go when I moved up here. Too far to go to unit meetings. Was a member of the Southern MI Unit. Need to get on the ball and become a member at large - before June!
