No, it lacks the relatively long pointy bill, slim build and long tail of gnatcatcher. I imagine, when you saw it, it didn't have the flitty behavior of one either; instead did it sit quietly, and occasionally sally out to catch insects?

It's a tyrant flycatcher - a Wood-Peewee, I'd venture.

Eastern Phoebe

Note the contrast between the dark top half of the head and the white throat; on Eastern Wood Pewee, the head is much more uniform in colour.
