Neighborhood hoolygans....STINKIN' SQUIRRELS! They've tore up my gnome garden again! They've tossed the gnomes out into the yard, kicked over the table, tossed and bent the garden fencing up and even ripped the roof off the little house I made from a terra cotta pot and roofinf shingles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm constantly making repairs on my gnome garden.ARGH!!!

Fuzzy Gangbangers!
they're like school yard bullies picking on the geeky kids. My poor lil gnomes are only about 6 inches tall so they chunk them every where. They must be on steroids too....look how bent up that one piece of fencing is.....and the roofing shingle is torn in half.
Nice spot for Mr. Thoughtnot. He ought to be real happy there.
Peggy
love that stained glass fairy WW
Sorry to hear they did this. It may have even been a raccoon?
How about sprinkling cayene pepper on it, next time you get it back in order? I hear that is a good deterrent
liquid fence might work as well
I don't think they like the gnomes in their neighborhood. Lots of squirrels in that big ole oak tree even though my husband "thins them out" every squirrel season.
I may have some cayene pepper in my spice rack.
Oh Peggy, what a bummer. Squirrels can be soooo distructive. I finally quit feeding birds because it also brought in squirrels and they wrecked so much stuff.
I finally found places for my feeders so they couldn't get to them. Maybe they're beating up my gnomes in retaliation...LOL
It wouldn't surprise me!
they're fun to watch but boy are the destructive.
Peggy, the good thing is they don't know who they're dealing with. I'm glad your husband "thins them out" - I keep saying I'm gonna get a BB gun just for the fun of it. (I think I'm what might be called a "Redneck Yankee"!)
How have things been since you first posted this?
Still a mess....I haven't gotten around to cleaning it up and putting it back together. I'm trying to figure out how to secure them into the ground.
Oh, wouldn't it be great if there were squirrel-sized mines to hide in your yard? LOL!
my dogs don't like them but they run thur the gnome home chasing them up the tree so no help there.
Hi I just found the forum. But in another one I read that Vicki vapor rub will keep Squirrels away from feeders so it should work for this also.
really.... wow
Here is the thread I am trying it, http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/983624/
worth a shot.... thanks!
they;ve decided, they've had enough fun with my gnome garden and have moved on to the bird feeders. Wonder if Vick would bother the birds?
Peggy
No I think most birds do not have a since of smell, just do not put it right where the birds will stand. I put it on the pole and around the feeder lower down.m I will let you know tomorrow if it does work. Been gone today.
Sandy
bigred, I've seen birdhouse folks say to use vaseline inside the birdhouse to keep out wasps so, it must not be a problem for the birds although I would think it better to place either inside on the back of the house or maybe on the base. Also, they say to use a bit of sulphur inside to keep away the mites. As to those "hooligans" whatever you can think of to keep them away.......rascals!
Well it looks like it keeps the Squirrels away for the feeders, but I was not home so I do not know if they birds came to the feeders or not. Will have to keep an eye out tomorrow.
I've used vaseline on the ropes(or chains) that my hummingbird feeders hang from to keep te ants out.
