Cukes in pots are new for me, mostly have just done nightshade relatives. I would like something I could save seeds from. No need for huge yield since I'm the only one that'll be eating them (fresh). I tried using advanced search in PF, but found that most of the cukes didn't have the seed type marked so I only got a few OPs.
This seems to be the most appropriate place to start.
thanks
Anyone grown OP cucumbers in containers?
I will be doing cucumbers in containers this year. A couple varieties are small and better suited for container growth, the third an heirloom. The smaller two are hybrid tho.
I did a lemon cucumber in a pot a couple of years ago and it did great. I'm the only one in the house that eats them, so haven't grown any more.
Good to know... the lemon cucumber is the heirloom that I am doing this year.

Oh, I thought lemon was an heirloom?
Sorry ~ my bad! I meant heirloom not hybrid. No where near enough coffee this a.m.
Wanted to add to the thread. I grew Straight 8 cukes in a large container last year and it did well for me. But ended the season earlier than it everdid in the garden. But i was proud of what i did get.
Cando ~ what did you use for a trellis? Asking as I believe the Straight 8 grows quite a long vine?
podster, My DH made cages out of hog panels several years ago and i've kept a half dozen of them. They slip right over my containers. The cukes grew up and over the cages and back to the ground. They are about 5' high.
Those cages would be very handy for all potted vines. I am intending to build a bamboo trellis or tripod for mine. Harvested the bamboo this past weekend.
I've been seeing "OP" a lot recently...what does that stand for?
thank you
Open pollinated ~ desirable because OP seeds have been developed over generations for being hardier in extreme climates making them able to endure severe weather conditions. They have adapted over the years being far more hardy. I am sure it can be explained better than I can but....
Ah, yes...should have guessed that, but didn't. :0)
Thanks

I'm not normally good on acronyms here but that was one I'd run into before and am learning.
