Lemon Meringue

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

Lemon Meringue is a beautiful, heavy blooming double (mostly triples though) by Brenda Delph of seedsprout nursery. I was lucky enough to trial this brug a few years back and found it to be one of my favotite doubles. For one, the thing really grows fast in the hot climates. She almost tripled in size during the summer months last year. Then once the fall came and the cooler weather came in she started blooming like crazy. She has been rumored to be bi-colored but that's not really true. She blooms out very slowly and the inner skirt remains an egg yolk yellow for a long time as the bloom unfurls. The pictures show the yellow and white skirts of the blooms. All of the blooms pictured here are triples. I have checked all the blossoms and every one of these have a third skirt in them. Some of the blooms are stuffed rosette type blooms while others have distinct separation of the skirts. If you live in a warm climate and have trouble growing out doubles, this a brug for you.

Lovely photos, Gary. I wish I had bought this one. Brenda is no longer in business and I can't find it anywhere now.

I think this was one of Brenda's last releases

That's a nice flush on LM. I had to dig mine up when we hit in the low 20's. She is in a pot pouting now but at least she is still alive lol. Most of mine had quadruple skirts when I was opening them to pollinate. There was a skirt in a skirt in a skirt etc.... like one of those nesting dolls or trick gift boxes lol.

Many of these are quads as well. I had one drop before it opened and it had 5 skirts. I don't think it would ever have bloomed all of those skirts out all at once. I think the outer skirt would have turned brown before that 5th skirt came down. I will be watching all of these blooms closely. What i like about this plant is the ability to produce perfect rosette type blooms (semi stuffed). They are my personal favorite. Here is another perfect rosette from the backside of the plant. I love these guys!!

That's a nice photo of her. Wow 5 skirts! The quads I've had (the 4th skirt) never made it down all the way, except for one, and it was really stuffed and the first couple skirts had turned a little brown looking by then. But Hey! Its a start! I look forward to seeing some of its offspring some day with full quadruple skirts!
She is one of my favs too. Does pretty good for a multi-skirted brug in a hot humid climate.

Lemon Meringue and Doosie have proven to be the nicest white doubles for the warmer climates. Supposedly Doosie is an apricot/orange depending upon the time of year. So far I have only seen white blooms but the blooms I have seen are very, very nice blooms.

I may have to try Doosie too then :)

IF I CAN JUST HAVE A SLICE OF Lemon Meringue AND A COLD GLASS OF MILK.

OH HOW LOVELY

Angel_Tree_Baby,
Doosie is a must for the warmer climates. I tell Eddie all the time how happy I am with this one. She's blooming for me now but I am too anxious to get the pollen and pollinate her blooms to get any photos...LOL!!

I have seeds with LM as the daddy, Some I thought might not grow because they had to be harvested and planted early due to the freeze we got down into the low 20's -The seeds were tiny and white... but it appears that some are starting to sprout! Yippee !! They are:
Dorthea x LM
NOL x L. M
Rosalla x L.M.

I never did get a pod to stay on LM itself. They would get a certain size and then drop :(

I'm so happy for you, Lenette. Oh, to see a Lemon Meringue type flower with Dorothea's long tendrils or with Rosalla's color. That would be something. Please post photos when they bloom.

Nice crosses Lenette. So far I have managed two pods on LM. One with my new baby Jezebel (Painted Lady x Salmon Perfection).
The other one which is getting big now is with Mountain Magic. There are still three spent blooms I'm waiting on to see if anything else has taken. LM outcrosses very easily. She has very fertile pollen. I have many LM pods outcrossed to various singles including Rosalie and Pink Charm. I generally stay away from double to double crosses

I'm so glad you got some pods on LM it will be interesting to see how she does in the mommy role. Some of the pods I thought would hold on, became very squarish shaped enlarged a little, then they fell off. It is strange. I am gonna keep trying though lol.
I agree she does have fertile pollen. I have a few more crosses with her as the daddy but the pods aren't done yet. I panicked and dug up several brugs when it froze and some still have pods that are still maturing.

An interesting outcross that I have with this one is with my new apricot/orange KBS x Adeline seedling.
KBS x Adeline has a nicely established pod on it from Lemon Meringue.
This is the KBS x Adeline seedling bloom.

Ooohhh that's a nice color and curly tendrils too. That will look good as a quadruple. Maybe it will even be bi-colored!
