CLOSED: What am I?

Is this a black-necked stilt (possibly a juvenile) or something else?

It looks very similar to a black-necked stilt; but it was 2-3 inches smaller. Also, the black color didn't extend all the way up the back of the neck; so I wanted to ask the experts about it.

Here are a couple of adult black-necked stilts. It's not the best photo; but it may help for comparison.

Yep, Black-necked Stilt. The extent of black on the head is very variable. In general, males have more black and are slightly larger, and females less black and slightly smaller, so yours is likely a female.

Your pictures made me smile. The first one looks like a gangly teenager. Cute.

Thanks Resin & Julie. The first one was so cute and it didn't mind me getting close enough to get a good pic of it.

When I'm trying to ID birds, my hubby loves to tease me. He tells me that there are only 3 types of birds ... roadrunners, quail and fried. LOL!

I'm getting better Resin; but if I live to be 100, I'll never know half of what you do. As always, thank you for your help.

Jane
