While neighbors and I were at the creek bank to observe the spawning Coho Salmon last month, a kingfisher flew by us, and did it's loud ACK, ACK, ACK. At first, thinking it had been unaware of us under the trees, we gave it little thought. But then, knowing these are shy birds, we were surprised when it twice returned to chew us out! (I'd only seen a kingfisher once before at this location, more than a year prior)
Do kingfishers eat fish eggs? Since the creek dried in summer there'd have been very few if any small fish in this part of it, but this bird was quite upset at our presense there.
Belted Kingfisher behavior
Yes, they'll take fish eggs.

Thanks! That was the only reason I could think of that it would be so persistant, and very obviously irritated at us.
