Our friend Mark has been overwintering this plant in his garage. From his description of it's glory days I am estimating the leaves get to be at least 5-6 feet from base of petiole to leaf tip. The best way I can describe the shape is 'fig leaf' (spatulate??) The pics of the base of the plant show the old petiole scars and the roots that appear between the nodes.
What the heck is this?
That looks like Bird's Nest Anthutrium to me, Anthurium hookeri. Very nice!
yes..I agree..Anthurium
Thanks! Next time I go to Mark's I will take an appropriate potting mix and we'll repot it and get it ready to move outside whenever it gets warm enough. I am looking forward to seeing it regain it's former glory.
A birdnest Anthurium indeed but you can't tell more about it.
Maggi- I have one that is growing epiphytically on a piece of mesquite that I split from a hollow log. At first, I had the roots wrapped with orchid moss and tied to the log with fishing line. Now, you can hardly see the moss anymore for the root ball. If your friend has more than one plant, you may want to try it. Jim
hey you...how are you guys doing?
We're good, my friend. Getting ready for a plant swap in College Station tomorrow. We went to Wayne's back in March, and his open house days seem to be going great guns. I think my chocolate plants all died and there don't seem to be any volunteers. We may have to find our way over to your place soon. Talk at you later... got to do the work thing here. Jim
okay..have fun! have tons of chocolates coming up..still tiny..but coming up
