Well.. I've two seeds sprouting they are from diferent crosses though. both sharethe same pod parentage....they were both soaked in the same manner.. pealed and planted together..side by side.. onecame upalovly dark green.. andtheother almost a white yellow.. I had some others come up that same yellowish color from other crosses..and now they have greened up some...thankfully..
what's going on here...
sprout differences..
I had a few sprouting seeds do the same thing. Some were even in the same pot as the green seedlings. Since mine were sprouting in the greenhouse where temperatures vary drastically, I blamed it on temperature differences at the time they emerged (mainly too cold), but yours look like they were safely indoors. Hmmmm...
Hi me too ^_^ ...someone in ABADS said that it happens to most of her seedlings that have aurea influence ...they green up when bigger. I can't say if that is the case or not but my seedlings are growing in warm temps so I don't think it is the heat or cool ...I think it is in the genes because they are all treated exactly the same.
Some of the seedlings exhibiting the yellowing are supposed to be B. arborea. I'll have to go out tomorrow to see who the parents of the other yellow sprouts are.
OK...All of the seedlings have a pod parent of Axel Rose.. a sport of Peaches and Cream a versicolor.. could this be apart of what in the flowers has them opening white.. then turning darker..
That's good..except for this group..see photo... here you have two of the same seed pod..
they were soaked together.. pealed and put into the same pot... both sprouted out aboutthe same time..in temperatures that ran from perhaps 74 night time to 88 day time.. one is as green and pretty as you might like to see.. the other is close to white...
what is it that's said... there's an exception for every rule.. or for every rule there's an exception..
I was just courious.. at this point.. when they started.. I was more worried as I didn't know they were to soon become green also...
A day or two ago, I saw seeds for sale on e-Bay with Axel Rose as one of the parents. I was tempted to buy some, but then began to wonder if the seedlings would be the same as seedlings from other variegated crosses — albinos. Maybe the yellowish-white seedlings will have more of the Axel Rose influence. I'm just glad to see that a green on green variegate cross is capable of producing viable offspring. It will be interesting to see how those particular seedlings do. Do you plan to keep track of those seedlings that started out yellow to see if the color portends anything unusual?
Some of my seedlings stayed that lighter color all season. The were all started together & planted in beds side by side & they still didn't get as dark as the others even after extra foliar feedings.
Linda
Well yes Veronica.. I've got them tagged as white also.. Yes.. these came from E-Bay recently.. they are from Fred @ Sommers Garden in FL... I've seen him about BGI some.. I've Axel Rose X Creamsickle
X Ludgers Windsong
X Jamies Monkey Business
X America
The light colored ones are all from this bunch.. maybe 30% of the ones I planted.. So if anywhere... the answer is with in Axel Rose..
I found out who Axel Rose is the other day.. just as these were sprouting.. I happened to run across a picture of him and his wife.. I guess I maybe knew way back then..
OH.. guess they were albinos...as they aren't greening up.. and are slowly wilting... with no green at all to help.
These are my first albinos.. so I wasn't expecting them... but thanks for the help..
I'm sorry they turned out to be albinos, Gordon, but you did get some seedlings that re-greened. Let us know if the seedlings that re-greened end up variegated. Or cross those back to each other to see what happens. A few years ago, my Maya produced a seedpod. Instead of cutting it off, I let it mature as I needed to see for myself whether it was true that variegated Brugs produced albino offspring. I wasn't disappointed — all albinos. It's sad to see.
OH..Veronica.. The first ones that were pale ..greened up some... and were green by the time I started getting the real light ones. which I posted the pictures of.. I'm not sure just which ones they were by that time.. but.. still... from the same cross I got them that wern't.. I hope it wasn't just a mix up in the seeds... the green ones.. in with the albinos are all marked though.. Seems if they were albino from their ancestory.. I'd have them all albino from that same cross.. here.. unless there a skipping aspect to the genetic possibilities.. and it's sometimes skipping
