Does anybody use the self watering pots? Please tell me if you like them.....
AV/Strep pots, they're pots, how descriptive can I get? :-)
I use them and I like them a lot. The biggest complaint is the double AV pots can get moldy inside. It doesn't take much to rinse them out with baking soda.
What do you mean about self water pots? are you talking about old kind or the new ones? New ones kinda suck. I have a old one.
I bought mine 20 yrs ago, and you can not find them anymore. Mine have a well (outside pot) the plant goes in the inside pot. It has a wick laced through the bottom of the inside pot and a Styrofoam water level gauge. Its too cool,to bad they stopped making them.
Might try the charcoal and see if it works.
I had one with a wick but it broke. It was a good one. I'm talking now about the same kind only the water seep through the porous bottom of the inside pot. The pots where you just fill up the built in tray underneath work well also.
I use those for my AV's. DD had some made for me about ten years ago. They work better than some of the newer ones. Had some of the old ones with the wick, they did work good, but mine got broken too. Like the idea of the charcoal, never thought of that, but it might work. They really aren't that hard to clean, just something extra to do. They do keep the plants evenly moist.
