Ya, mine's just about stopped blooming now, too. I'm not a fan of anything pink, but these are just plain stunning in person.

It is a beautiful flower. How tall is your tree and how fast do the Dobeya grow?

I got a 2 foot dombeya last year and put it in the ground in April. It is now about 4 1/2 feet tall. It sure was pretty in bloom. I just love it.

D. wallichi has a medium growth rate - not fast, but defnitely not slow. They tend to want to sucker and want to form large, multi-branched shrubs (mine's probably 8' or 9' tall now), so maintaining a standard will take some maintenance. They are winter bloomers on new growth, so I don't now how much trimming you can do on branch ends without negating blooms or how late you can do it.

D. x 'seminole' (like phughes) is a smaller type and lends itself more naturally to a standard form (little or no suckering). I've had mine for about 6 or 7 years now and it's only about 5' tall. It holds it's blooms upright and are generally two rows of 3/4" (or so) buttercup-type flowers - very charming and bloom season lasts long time!! I think it's also been marketed more in the last couple years as 'Pink Cloud'.

'Seminole's' blooms are much easier to see as they are on the tips of of the branches held just above the leaves. D. wallichii tends to hide it's flowers amongst it's large leaves - but what a nice surprise when you find them!!

Carter are you sure mine is a seminole??? I remember it being called a wallichi, but I wouldn't know one for the other.

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

Ya, it's definitely x seminole. D. wallichii definitely has flower umbels that hang totally pendent and are nearly spherical in shape. D. x seminole has flowers held definitely upright above the leaves and are generally two ranked in two nearly neat little rows like yours are.

Thank you; appreciate the knowledge!!!

Have standardized mine and they are about 10'. The last trim I do is in early September in order to get a winter bloom. Took me 2 years to figure it out but this schedule is working great. I also hard trim end of this month as well to keep the shape. They absolutely do not mind it at all....sort of like Hibiscus.I'm not sure what I'll do when it gets 15 or 20' !
