Posted this in the fragrant forum but they're not all fragrant...just "came upon" this site and whaa laaa....he did all the work already. Plus has great ratings in Watchdog (no, I've not ordered from him...yet....eyeballing the witchhazel Jill talks about though) http://www.plantandgnome.com/new_page_1.htm
Month by month blooming ideas
He also has already rooted plants of Japanese fantail willow. There used to be a guy from Pa. who came every year to the Home and Garden Show who sold bundles of the cuttings to root. I bought some and tried, no luck. My mom bought some and tried, no luck. A couple of friends bought some and tried and they had no luck either.
He has the cuttings too for as little as 80 cents apiece. If any of you like plants with very interesting stems, might want to check it out.
I like that Month to month will be looking at this site for a while. Looks interesting.
When I first came to DG there was this really beautiful garden extensive with huge waterfall and giant pond, she had those giant water lilies. It was in Fl. and the lady opened it up for tours. Quite exceptional. She commented that when she first started her garden she would go every week to the local nurseries and buy whatever was blooming that week bring it home and set them in the garden and move them around to what ever spot she liked then planted them. That was how she designed her garden and I remember thinking if I could afford to just go and buy quantities of large blooming plants it would make designing pretty easy. LOL
Oh amen to that...me? I buy the small ones (read cheaper ones) and baby them till they grow up...course that may be why they're not always placed exactly right i.e. my 'Shooting Star' gardenia that "might" be just a bit close to the walk way. Who knew? Up till that one - I'd killed every other gardenia I got my hands on.
Great info.
