I've amended the soil in every way I know and still am being targeted by flea beetles. Does anyone know of plants they stay away from? That will do well beside my eggplants and Nappa cabbage (well and regular cabbage too... dang it!!)?
CP: Chasing off Flea Beetles?!
grownut,
This site http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/insect/05592.html suggests planting a "Trap Crop" of Radish.
Then harvesting the Trap Crop when the main crop has been sufficiently established.
Well, dang! How did you find that?! I usually plant daikon along with my Napa, but we eat the daikon too!! Pickle the leaves and eat the root any number of ways. Wonder if a trap crop of radish I don't want to eat will protect what I will want? Or maybe the little buggers'll just go straight for my favorites...
I get the feeling I've just been creating a flea beetle heaven in the back yard...yargle...
I wish I could give you my magic cure but the only thing that has worked for me is rowcovers until stuff is big enough to take some damage.
That was on my list of stuff to buy this year....still haven't....
