I was wondering if someone could explain how a co-op works, and how to get involved in one? Thanks.
sorry in advance if this is a "no brainer question"
PS.......ladydragon, glad you're happy!!
Co-Op's
There is actually a co-op forum here. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/groupbuy/all/
As I understand it someone will want to purchase from a particular nursery and contact that nursery to see if we can get a price break for a group buy. They will start an interest thead to see if it is worth pursuing and if so start an order thread. The person or persons who host the group buy set the rules. I have been involved as a participant in several co-ops and have not had a bad experience.
Reading through the threads at the co-op forum will really give you a good idea on how they work. Each one is a little different.
When I found a co-op I wanted to participate in, I read the rules carefully - and followed all of the instructions. When I had a question, I Dmailed the organizer and they clarified somethings. I can get a little confusing sometimes, depending on how organized it is. They're kinda fun, though, and I recommend it.
Good luck. Was there a co-op you were interested in?
Julie
add the co-op forum to your watched list so that you can watch it
It is very crazy this time of year so if you have questions you can dmail me
and i will try to help anyone that needs it
sometimes they put a interest thread up and see how many people are interested
and it gives them a idea how much should be ordered so they aren't stuck with 100s of
plants.
Then they make a ordedr thread for us to order plants
then sometimes there is a chat thread-I hate these!!!
then there is a payment thread so you can pay for all your goodies!

Lilies are one of my favorites!!! Thank you so much you three for the replies. I guess I didn't really have any specific one in mind Julie, I like EVERYTHING. I was just thinking maybe a co-op would encourage me to get something I might not normally purchase on my own. Birdie
Yes Birdie thats what I do also. Buy things I can not find around here. I love to go to the greenhouses and look. But I have gotten some really nice things on the co-ops. Like the others have said read all the instructions the organizers have put into place. Its easy and fun. Usually there are links to look at the products available. I bought a ton of bulbs last year, really pretty inexpensive. Even with the shipping. Ronna
I love co-ops!! First of all I love to organize things-that is my fortay and would love to do that as a career!!LOL And then I love the fact that a lot of times you can get things in co-ops that you can't find locally and get them at a price cheaper than you would find locally-even if you have to baby it a little....
I agree Fairy1004, thats why I thought I might like to "dive" into one!! Birdie
