To the Rainbow Bridge

Falls Church, VA(Zone 7b)

I really hate to bear sad news, but on this celebrated day of love, I do so with the intent to share a touching moment in dog ownership. I know many of you appreciate what dogs have to offer, and understand what it means to lose a beloved pet. Hutch passed away suddenly on Thursday night, leaving me in shock and disbelief. Today, I received a beautiful card of sympathy from The Hope Center, the emergency care room that took him in. It made a world of difference to read their words of support.

Inside the card was a piece of paper with a beautiful poem on it called "The Rainbow Bridge." Rather than type it out, I found a link and you can read it and see how comforting it is for such a loss. Hutch was the greatest dog I have ever known and owned.

He was a fun and playful dog, up to the last minute. He will be sorely missed.

One day, he caught a chipmunk that was raiding my strawberries. He was so proud of himself. That was just one, though. He mostly liked to chase them into holes and keep them at bay. He was a real gamer.

So sorry to hear of your loss, {{{{Hugs}}}}

I have been through this several time myself, and I feel you pain. They are on loan to us for such a short time, but they remain in our hearts forever.

Thanks, Lady!! I appreciate that. Yes, it is sad that they don't live as long as we do. But they give a lot of joy.!! Maybe tenfold for their very short times.

FoxnFireFly, I'm so very sorry about Hutch! How devastating. Thank you for sharing his photos. It's hard not to feel some of your pain when I look at them.

How thoughtful of the people at your emergency center to send the card and poem. I've never had a vet do that.

Sending you (((( warm hugs )))) and healing thoughts as you grieve for Hutch.

Foxy, so sorry about your beloved Hutch. The dogs in my life have been such wonderful friends and companions, and it is so emotionally hard when they pass on. I sympathize with your loss, and wish you comfort and heart-felt compassion during this rough time... terri

Wrightie, my vet and his techs sent a wonderful card with the nicest notes from all of them when Java died. I'd never had a vet do that before either.

Our vet did the same when we lost Blake...

Foxy, I know this was a sad weekend without your funny fuzzy Hutch bounding around. *hugs*

I just wanted to voice my sympathies along with the others. The loss of one of your fur babies is unbelievably painful and there are still times when I think of one of mine who has crossed over and get misty-eyed. All of us will keep you in our thoghts and prayers.

Oh, you people are wonderful!! ((Hugs to all of you!!)))

Hart--I didn't know you lost Java. I must have missed that somehow, and I am truly sorry to hear it. I know you're missing Java now.

Wrightie, I got my DHto help me with pulling out the pictures. We had to move the pictures from an external drive to the C:// drive, it seems. Not sure what all was involved. Hutch was a beautiful long-haired Jack Russell terrier. I just wish I had taken more pictures of him doing his stuff that he was best know for.

Things like opening the screen door on the back porch, hot laps, sitting up and begging, his rump in the air with his head down and his forepaws spread out like "Gotcha", and, when he was listening to us talk and recognized certain words, like "outside", "go", "car", PetSmart", so on, he would cock one ear up and thrust his heard forward, as if eavesdropping.

I had hoped to have a dog party this summer with DGers. I am very disapointed.

Yes, I thought it was nice and thoughtful of the busy hospital staff to send a card. I loved the poem they shared. Very human gesture. I really appreciated that when it came in as I was in a state of elsewhere. And here, it is so good to hear from all of you dog lovers and to see the support pour in. I am so grateful to all of you. Thank you!! ((Hugs again!!))
