I live in Augusta, Georgia, home of the hot as hell summers. I have this great ( well, I thought it was) compost pile and found these little pests in them. I need help identifying exactly what type they are and how to get rid of them.
Thanks,
Tricia
how do I get rid of these and what kind of grubs are they?
I think they might be Green Fruit Beetle or closely related Cotinis beetle larvae, in which case they are not a pest species - as far as I know, they only eat decaying plant material, which is why you find them in compost. They're helping your compost pile!
The adults are large metalic green beetles you may have seen in summer.
If they crawl on their backs, they almost certainly would be Cotinus spp.
Unlike the larvae, the adult beetles can be pests - they love our blackberries...
