Hello all sorry i haven't been here been very sick with a bad cold.
Haven't really felt human in several days :(
My question is i'm planning on cleaning the pen the sick bunny's were in and i was going to use bleach.
I have already thrown away the waterer's and other items i had for them feed scoop, feed bucket, etc.
Doe's bleach kill everything that would be associated to this??
I'm going to be putting chickens in this pen, But i wanted to know if it is safe to use after the bleach or should i use Lysol Too?
By the Way i haven't been here but congrats on all the new baby's and other new animals ^_^
Bleach Question
I don't have an answer to your question but I just wanted to say I hope you feel better soon. I love your pic. It's going to near 50* today and that picture is adding to my spring fever!
Sue ☺
Hey Sue! So glad you got some good weather there been in the 70s here all week and i been sick :(
I have spring fever TOO! My DH tilled our garden spot yesterday and is going to add some manure.
OH! the air was so fresh, clean and warm when i fed everyone this morning didn't even wear a jacket ^_^
Spring is coming and i think we are all tired of winter LOL
Ahhh, that sounds so nice. :-) It smells like spring here today, too.
I've been letting the goats and sheep in the garden area so they can "self-sow" some manure! Once the frost comes out, we'll clean out the barn and the chicken coop for some more yummy garden material. The chicken's will be helping amend where the corn will be planted. It'll have about 2 months to break down so I'm hoping it won't be too strong by that time for the corn.
We are using rabbit manure my friend has a rabbitery and she has tons of manure.
Rabbit manure can be used immediately with no waiting it won't burn plants and it grows wonderful tomatoes and vegetables.
It really helps amend this rock hard Ga. clay we have here.
I think bleach water should be enough to kill everything. It kills 99% bacteria and germs. I think you will be fine with that. But I have never had this issue. I understand the concern about contagious dissease. You have experienced it before and dont want to again.
I hope you are feeling better. Those colds cant keep you down!!! ;)
Thanks JeanMarie and i'm just sitting here blowing my nose and coughing :(
I love love love rabbit manure. A friend of my husband raises quite a few and as long as you do the shoveling, you can take as much as you want. He doesn't garden so he's just glad to see it gone.
I'm sending you a box of puffs plus. :-) No red noses!
Glad you have access to rabbit manure it's the best manure i'ved used it has really helped my soil.
Did you know it makes a perfect worm bed *yep* you can grow your own fish bait LOL
Got the puffs no red nose's here ^_^
I had worms acouple of years ago. The Worm Ladies of Charlestown, http://angoraandworms.com/ , are located about 10 minutes from me. I kept them for about a year but ended up putting them in an outside bed and unfortunetly they didn't make it. They have used some under their rabbit hutches and haven't lost any to the cold but I think they had a thicker straw bedding for them. They made great compost though.
Yea for puffs!
I use bleach as a disenfectant for all the animals around here and if it kills what a coon leaves behind, I think it will take care of everything else. I wash stuff down with a pressure washer and then fill a hand sprayer with the bleach solution (I use about 1/2 cup bleach to about 3 or 4 gallons) and spray it all down. I give it at least 24 hours to dry before putting anyone else there.
Thank You jylgaskin i was afraid with the snuffles being bacterial that the bleach might not be enough. I have a sprayer i use for my chickens and i will use that.
Thanks ^_^
harmony, i always love your pictures!!! it's nice to see a little sun! it's so rainy here!!!!!;)
Thanks Fuzzy♥
A 10% bleach solution will kill just about everything. It has to be made fresh every day however. You can't make it up and store it. 70% ethanol will also work, and that can be kept long-term.
These are what we used and were taught to use when I worked in a research lab with human blood and tissue samples.
The thing to remember about using bleach is that you need to clean the thing you want to disinfect before you use the bleach on it. Chlorine is quickly inactivated by organic debris (i.e. dirt), so clean with soap and water first, then sanitize.
Sandy, I had to really read your reply carefully. I thought you said "you" had worms... too funny ; ) Laughing!!!!!!!!!!
It's a good morning! my DH when to play golf and the house is peacful. The dogs are playing chase and I get to drink my coffee in peace!
lol! no worms!! I've had to reread posts before too. Good for a laugh now and then though. :-)
Ahhhh, I would love some peace and quiet! Seems like everytime everyone is gone I'm busy with chores and the second I sit down, they all come home!
