Hi all,
I would like to sow some seeds this spring in my raised beds. Here is a list of what I have:
Rainbow Coleus
Foxglove
Forget Me Not
Nepal Cinquefoil Potentilla
Aquilegia desertorum
Catananche Caerulea
Echinacea coneflower
Penstemon
Agastache
Shasta Daisy
Zinnia
Giant Imperial Stock
Moss Rose
Cerastium Snow In Summer
Which ones are safe to put out right now (pretty sure coleus is a NO)? I'm in 8b. Will these do okay sowing them directly into the soil?
Seeds to sow
Looks like we have similar taste in plants! Maybe someone else will be able to give a more direct answer, but I can tell you that several of those have already sprouted for me in WSown containers. They are:
Foxglove (digitalis purpurea)
4 kinds of coneflower
Agastache cana and agastache rupestris
2 Zinnias of the Profusion series
Giant Imperial Stock
Moss Rose
Aquigelia canadensis
A Penstemon (can't remember which kind and I'm not at home to check)
I am in zone 8b, also. I plan to cover my sprouted containers if it looks like a possible frost. If you are able to cover the raised beds during a frost, I'm guessing they will be fine. I'm also guessing the Shasta Daisies would be ok if you could cover them. The mature plants stay evergreen all winter here.
Hopefully someone with more experience direct sowing those in Zone 8b will chime in and we will both learn!

No experience with any of those here but am curious NBGard ~ how early did you wintersow your seeds? I've done vegies but no blooms yet.
Hi podster. Out of 140 containers I have right at 70 that have germinated. Many of those I started Jan 10th, but some of them I started as late as Feb. 1st. I have a few more that I hope to do this weekend, stevia, dayflower and larkspur (gentian blue). I need to check to see if any of those require cold stratification, since it probably won't get cold enough here to take care of that. Some that have germinated include tomatoes and several herbs.

Uhhh... I said no blooms yet ~ meant no sprouts. Anyway mine haven't been but 10-15 days. Late as usual. 8 )
