Mountain Magic

You can see why this one is quickly gaining status as one of the classic brugs to own. Introduced in 2004 by hybridizer Terry McLeod the coloration on this cultivar can vary from light pink to the color pictured here where she is almost a pure shade of red.

Terry got a couple of great brugs from this brug cross. Mountain Treasurer was another beauty, but Mountain Magic definitely does deserve recognition as a #1 brug.

I have Mountain Treasure also but it hasn't 'Y'd yet so it will be awhile before I see any blooms.

I got a mountain magic cutting because someone told me it would do well in my climate. But the cutting didn't make it. Does anyone have a cutting they would be willing to share?

Betty, In late November of '07, I had to take a 4' cutting off my potted MM because I had to sever the roots growing out the drain holes. I cut the branch into 6 - 7 pieces to root. They all rotted. I've never had all the pieces of one cultivar rot before. Then last year, it was so hot and dry that my Brugs didn't grow much. If my MM grows this year, I will send you a cutting later in the year.

For comparison, MM is slightly paler in winter in a greenhouse. I also noticed the calces on some of the blooms are shorter. You can see a normal sized calx next to the bloom.

It is much cooler in the mountains of NC than in Florida in the summers but I have one good sunny place for one. Maybe I should start a new thread and beg?
