They need help finding lizard!

Who knows, maybe someone here has seen this rare lizard. I've got some good size lizards, but don't think I've seen this one.

I read that article in the paper and cringed. My husband and I saw one of these lizards last year. It was drinking from our birdbath. I saw it only once and my DH saw it only once. My free roaming neighbors' cats probably killed it is the reason I cringed. It is very strange looking.

Oh, but it's cool that you saw it! I'd like to see a pic if it shows up again. We have some large lizards out here and I worry about pets attacking them also. But I don't think I've ever seen that one. I noticed the map on the other site I found didn't include my county, so that's not surprising.

At the time, I was so interested in looking at it that I didn't think about taking a photo of it. I did not realize what kind of lizard it was. I am on the look out for it now. I do not know if I should try to capture it so it does not get killed by my dogs or by cats. You never know , Linda. A couple may be lurking around your area too. It may be that no one has reported seeing them. The one we saw was very large. Here's the story:

They are supposed to be only 6 inches long...that doesn't sound so large. The other site on Nature Conservancy:

It could have been only 6 inches long. It did not have ears. It looked like the more brown one on the poster. It states that one should not handle the lizard so if I see it again, I'll take a photo of it. I live in a subdivision; however, there are fields behind my house. I will inform my neighbors that own the fields as well as the neighbors close to me to be on the look out for these lizards. I will be searching the fields as well. Without a a photo, I do not know whether to inform them that I have seen one or not.

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to let them know you saw one. They might be able to tell something from talking to you about if it is for sure the one they're looking for, and if it is, then they have a place to start. I would imagine they have some sort of system to rate how likely they think a sighting is and you'll get some color of pin on a map or something, lol.

PeeperKeeper, thanks for the advice.
