We have a perennial that encircles the live oak in our front yard. I think I have it identified as pink skullcap. It's been very nice in general, but I'm wondering -- Is this the sort of plant that would benefit from being cut back? It is looking a little leggy to me, and some of the green leaves seem to be on the ends of rather dried and brittle stems. If I should cut it back, is now a good time?
Thanks!

pink skullcap
Yes, cut it down to about 5 inches from the ground or what seems like a prudent amount, and it will reward you with lots of blooms.

Thanks for your speedy reply, Joesphine. That's just what I will do.

WOW -- it just occurred to me that it's February! Time to cut back the Salvias already!!

You know, this really is a wonderful website. Yesterday I was out cutting back my Mex Heather and Salvia and had my pruners aimed at the pink skullcap but suddenly I had doubt as to whether I should whack em down because this is the first year I've had that particular perennial. So I thought to myself, I'll just ask at DG first. So the first place I look is here in TX gardening and what do u know, someone else had the exact same question about the exact same plant just a couple days before, and it was already answered! I love DG!
