B. Balao - Ecuadorian Wildform

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

Balao is a versicolor wildform discovered in Ecuador by a Dr. Schwerdtfeger. Still considered a rare acquisition here in the states, hybridizers in europe have been using this cultivar for years to produce some beautiful offspring. Her color right now is very light. I am told that she can darken up quite a bit. This is her first day blooming and the weather has been quite cool. Both of these factors have probably influenced her color today.

I'm sure you will have plenty of warmer weather where she can show off her color more. She has a nice shape. Will be watching for more pictures, Gary.

I put this one in the ground so I'm sure she'll be around for awhile :}

So Gary, Balao is going to be a permanent resident in your Garden, judging by that you had planted her in the ground.. I wish much sucess for you, how is her daughter Rosalao doing?

Rosalao is growing fast. I can see she is going to be a big girl. Can't wait to see her bloom!

Balao did indeed darken up and she also developed the characteristic recurve seen in other pictures.

She is nice. Reminds me some of Ecuador Pink. Thanks for posting her more matured color.
