My garden/pond on this warm weekend-Pics!

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

I love this weather! Yippee! I have some photos to share! This is my new puppy "Pup-Pup" having his first big romp in the garden with my other big dogs.

These are some plants that are coming up in the pond. This is amazing to me.

Puppy!!! The only thing I love more then ponds and gardening are dogs!!! What breed? What a cutie!

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

Okay, not exactly a plant but a Pup-Pup!

Too cutie!

And more! Pup-Pup is a Havannese West Highland Terrier (terror. . .) cross. He is 5 months old now and I got him from my husband as a 46 year old birthday present. I wonder what I will get next year . . . I always had a fondness for dolphins . . .

go DH!

BTW: I have two fish with fungal infection. I treated one a week ago and I treated the other yesterday. The one I treated yesterday (both with PP) had so much dead scales/skin it was so gross. I felt as if I was going to poke a hole right through the fish with my cotton swab. I tried to rub all the dead stuff away. Ehhhhhheewie feeling. Hopefully the fish will make it alive and i can reevaluate it in a few days time. I didn't see this fish today and the pond is completely defrosted. At least it wasn't floating dead on the surface today.

EEEWWWW

Kearney, NE(Zone 5a)

I have a westie, so yes that is terror for terrier;) I love black and white animals, he would fit right into my herd. And what a cute face!

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

Thanks. He is a smart dog with a lot of swagger. There is a long line of people who have volunteered to puppy sit him if we go away. He is allowed to go into my kids school all the time The librarian used him as a reading dog because he can be very, very calm. I'm thinking of training him to be a service dog for kids because he really loves kids.

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

What a wonderful baby pup. You really should look into service training. He is not too old to start. I had seriously considered training Gracie my rottie/aussie as a search and rescue dog. Very good temperment and has the smarts but did not have the "drive" So she is just a loving homebody. I looked in my pond for signs of plat growth and did not see any. I would expect soon though.

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

We are in the same zone-why would I see sprouts and not you? Could it be my pond heaters? I found some Iris' coming up as well as some Yarrow and some of my herbs. Just little wisps of light green color. Exciting though I know it will be awhile before I can break ground and really start gardening.

Iowa City, IA(Zone 5a)

The only down side to all this weather, now that almost everything is melted, is that I see how much spring clean-up work there is ahead for me! It is too soggy to walk on the ground, though, so I can't do anything - it is really bothering me.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Ditto IC! I'm actually looking forward to the ground freezing so I can begin the spring rake.

That puppy is in serious danger of puppy-napping.

Kearney, NE(Zone 5a)

When the glacier melts, it leaves behind a trail of dog poo in our yard. Time to get out the poo shovel!
The weather has been great, I'm even seeing a little grass greening. And sprouting going on in the pond with my iris and water lillies. One of my fish actually made a splash today! But a winter storm is rolling in Thursday night. Possibly up to 10 inches of snow. Could be heading to Iowa next! LOL

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Ick on the 10"

I know Poo spring day is always a day I'm not looking forward to.

Iowa City, IA(Zone 5a)

We're supposed to get some snow this week and three days of it next week. Today our high will be 38 degrees. A few days ago it reached 60! That was so nice. Ditto on the ick for dog poo, I'll have that to clean up too. Maybe I should get out there today and get what I can. Ick, ick.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

yah, now that it has re-frozen a bit! ;)

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

To Mrs. Ed: Should I find little Pup-Pup has been dog napped I will come and hunt you down (or will send my husband . . .) LOL!

BTW: Just a thought . . . perhaps poo picking up all winter whilst it's frozen would make it easier . . . just a smart ass's thoughts . . .

My husband cleans the yard every week come rain or shine (or snow) and he isn't even all that fond of dogs! I lucked out with him didn't I?

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

You know it WOULD be easier each day while it is frozen. But laziness prevails. Once I have the spring cleanup done, I can keep up with it though.

you sure did luck out with your DH. These dogs are "his" though I love them and this Poo thing is HIS job. He's done it maybe 3 times in 9 years. So I make him do the checkbook.

Iowa City, IA(Zone 5a)

Yes, you did luck out! I end up cleaning the litter box from my hubby's cats, whom I really dislike, as well as all the outside poo. I'm also good about keeping up with it when there is not snow on the ground, 2-3 times a week, but it is impossible to keep up with when there is snow on the ground.

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

I do the litter boxes (or beg my cleaning lady . . . occasionally she feels sorry for my family . . .). My hubby does the poo, and the checkbook and 50% of the cooking. I love my man! He well trained!

Wow. congrats!

Holland, OH(Zone 5b)

My cleaning will do anything BUT the litter pans. That's OK with me. She loves the cats and the dogs. They all mob her when she comes. Well, the cats do their version of the mob - which is to jump up on the counter and knock off her cleaning supplies. That's good enough for me.

That's some morning routine ic. I do the dog ( 3, one with congestive heart failure - a complicted drug regimen) and cat thing ( 2 ) plus a tropical aquarium but I can't get DH to even consider a bird. Caring for birds is not for the faint of heart I hear. I'm impressed.

The koi pond here is ice free and through the murky water, which is driving me crazy, the koi are visible as pale ghosts. They are moving around vigorously. I still haven't been able to do a complete snout count. I have seen nine of the eleven. The tubbed water lilies are putting up the first leaves. This weekend I'm going to pick up the kitty litter for repotting. I repot in late March. I'll have divisions of Colorado ( hardy) a plenty if any one's interested.

MM that pup is too adorable for words. I have a good feeling aobut the infected koi. If they're still active at this point it's a pretty good sign that once the water warms up they might heal up. You've given them every chance.

Dog poo? What dog poo? I pretend I don't see it. One or two hard spring rains will take care of most of it - I hope!

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

My old cleaning lady would have given me the look of death if I even came close to suggesting she help me with the litter boxes. She moved back to Poland and her friend who replaced her is open to it. I pay her extra when she does. It's just not a nice job is it?

Snapps: I would love a section of Colorado and will pay postage! I just want to make sure I didn't order it from the TWL co-op this year. I have had this lilly in my brain for two summers but can only order so much each year. It's addicting!

it's torture seeing that puppy and not being able to squish it up to my face.

Kearney, NE(Zone 5a)

I bet he has puppy breath too!

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

yeah his puppy breath was of poop. He used to eat it but finally stopped that and it is true puppy breath now.

Holland, OH(Zone 5b)

Ok! - Too much information! I had a pooch that liked to eat dirt. Better than poo but still a nuisance. We thought it was a craving to satisfy a nutritional deficiency. But the vet said "Nah, he's just nuts! LOL He eventually slowed way down to a near stop, but never truly quit completely.

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

Mine quit on the poop and I am grateful. I over supply pigs ears and bones and it keeps him and his breath smelling like a dead animal (those things stink) but not poop plus he hasn't caused any major damage in the house. I feel lucky. I just found out DH leaves PUP-Pup out of his crate whenever I am not home for hours on end without supervision except pee pads, a doggie door and a baby gate. I almost died when I learned that. My furniture could have been chewed and shoes and toys ruined but there isn't very much wear and tear. He enjoys a good Croc (shoe) now and again but doesn't damage them. He did eat my husband ski googles that he left out and cost $150.00 but he told me that it was okay because he planned on upgrading them this year. Pup-Pup has a love of all things my kids so that they can chase him but doesn't destroy anything. Gloves and swim googles are favorites. He likes to lick the moisture out of their swim googles after practice (???). He also had a fondness for soccer shin guards . . . He literally jumps into my kids practice bags and searches for the shin guards and then run around the house with the kids laughing and chasing him. Very cute!
