Tamlamb, I'll have a partial packet of some grape tomato seeds (haven't picked the specific variety yet) in January or February. I don't know if anyone will be able to give you any they harvest from their own plants, as I think all the grape tomatoes are hybrids; new seeds must be purchased each year. If you don't find any before then, check back with me after New Year's.....

Tamlamb, I was debating whether the grape tomatos were a hybrid which would NOT come true, or if they were a more primitive species... interesting this question was raised. Will be watching to read the answer. John

I was told that if you buy grape tomatoes at the store and save the seeds they would grow true. I hope it is true because they are one of my favorite tomatoes. Great for salad and sweet enough to just eat like grapes.

Tamlamb, I have a heirloom (OP) variety of tomatoes called Texas Wild that are the size, shape and sweetness (well, almost!) of grapes, though I'm not sure if they are classified as actual grape tomatoes. The vines produce like mad! Here in my zone they reseed themselves, too. According to which research you read, they were either first found growing wild in Chiapas, Mexico in the early 1800s, growing wild along the Texas/Mexico border around the turn of the century (1900) or both. Would you like some? I have LOTS of seeds I harvested last year and would be more than happy to send you a couple packages (I'm sure they're still viable). Just send me your address and don't worry about an sase.

Honibee, I'm pretty sure the grape tomatoes from the store won't come true from seed - I believe they are F1 hybrids :(

But....I'm sure there will be seeds for trade after folks place their orders this fall/winter. I know I only grow out a few from each packet I buy, and I'm happy to share the rest with someone else. Last year some gardeners here were kind enough to send me a few seeds each of Sweet Olive, Mini Pearl, Sun Sugar and Yellow Pear when I asked for small and/or grape tomatoes. All were wonderfully delicious in their own way :)

Wingnut, if you have any extras, will you take a look at my tradelist and see if there's anything that interests you? I'd love to find an OP grape-style tomato - yours sounds very interesting.

Wingnut I sent you an email. Thanks for answering.
