I'm doing a list for my NPA (NW Perennial Alliance) group of great nurseries in the PNW. I wanted to get some input from you here. (I will also share the list and will post when it's available, probably sometime next weekend.)
I just saw that Rachie posted quite a few in the Round Up thread. Can some of you chime in with great nurseries you know and love to shop at in WA and OR and even CA, and MT. The people in my NPA group travel quite a bit and go to nurseries all up and down the west coast. Also I'm interested in great online mail order places, like for seed and specialty plants (roses, peonies, hostas, etc.) The key here is that we want the best of the best when it comes to online especially and I am also interested in places that specialize or are unique in some way rather than just general nurseries (unless they are outstanding general nurseries, like Chistiansons in Mt Vernon).
The info I am compiling includes the following:
Name of nursery
whether they are retail, wholesale, mail order (or a combination)
url
street address
city
state
what they specialize in
phone number
If you don't have all that info, just give me what you know and I will look up the rest.
Of course I aleady have Dragonfly!
Thanks!
Gwen
PNW Nurseries
Sounds great, Gwen. Not much help here though, sorry.
Hi gwen I thankyou for putting me on your list. I like to order from gosslers in Oregon they are retail. I put my first order into forest farms this year. I have boguht from asiatica in the past with cool stuff a little spendy. Also arrowhead alpines. I have also bought from edliweiss and a secret garden in Oregon. I don't think wholesale matters since most folks don't have a resale certificate. I also have found some cool stuff at far reaches.
Pixy is the best she knows all. Heidi and dragonfly
Gwen Fragrant Gardens is great, Cistus and Joy Creek if you haven't already got them. Morning Glory Farms up north of me in Stanwood is great too although I don't know if they retail or not.
Don't know what you have as far as Kitsap Co. goes. I know you have Heidi"s Dragon fly. and Savage.
But we also have
Valley Nursery, just down the road from me.
20882 Bond rd
Poulsbo, Wa

Retail
They have everything
I don't go there much, a little pricey and no time to shop. But when I have stop in they are very kind and help you with Qs. Sent my DH there for something I needed, he could not remember and the girl called me and ask me what I needed. I thought that was really cool.
Heidi, I am putting a lot of wholesale on my list because in my npa group, there are a lot of landscape people, designers and whatnot. I'd say over half of the group has a resell license, myself included. Maybe as many as 3/4 of the group. There are about 22 of us. But the ones 'in the biz' buy retail just as often as they buy wholesale, so I'm putting both on the list, and also mail order places.
Heidi, Is Asiatic the one in PA? also, is a secret garden the same as Secret Garden Growers in Canby?
Thistle, is Fragrant Gardens in Brookings?
Whoops had the name wrong this is the one I was talking about:
http://www.fragrantnursery.com/ it's in St Paul. Heirloom Old Garden Roses is just a few miles from there too.
I forgot about Christiansen's Nursery out near LaConnor, sometimes you can find a treasure there. They do the most wonderful displays every couple of years at the F&G show also.
How about Molbak's in Woodinville and FlowerWorld, in Snohomish...They're both wholesale and retail. I tend to use Molbak's for seeds (although I've started more internet using Thompson Morgan and their outlet Value Seeds), and FlowerWorld for the occasional brugmansia and other indoor plants they have. I've heard Cistus Nursery in Portland is a wonderful place, but I haven't been there yet myself.
I'd never heard of Dragonfly, nor had I heard of NPA; now I'm adding Dragonfly to my list of places to visit and NPA is a new resource for other nurseries I'd not heard of. Thanks.
There's a nice little place on Avondale Road (they end of I-520) called Classic Nursery. They do great landscape design and they often have some great deals/sales. They also get stuff from Langley Farms on Vashon, generally little seedlings of stuff you can't get anywhere else (like Tweedia caerulea).

Hi there Gwen, Asiatica I think is in penn. They have alot fo woodland plants. I also buy from Gosslers and Forest farms. How about Dancing Oaks in Oergon. They have some really cool things.
Heidi, I think I have all those. I JUST finished the list. We had our meeting last night where I presented the list and then today just now I put in a few corrections and additions.
Don't anyone send me anymore! LOL I need to get away from this list. I have spent hours and hours on it and if you send me one, I will feel obsessively compelled to add it.
I will start a new thread for people who would like a copy of the list.
Thanks everyone for giving me your input. It's an awesome list.
I'm looking forward to seeing the list!
You have put a lot of effort in this. I can't wait to tour some of them. Anyone up to it?
I am so looking forward to going to DragonFly's Monday. I have some $ set aside.
Does she have Brug starts? I was thinking of getting some from the Co-op, but would rather buy locally if I can. I have some NOID Brug seeds, but silly me, I am timid about sowing them.
Lynn - sow the Brugs. They are not hard to grow from seed.
In fact, I grew several from seed last March. I dug 2 of them up & brought inside for the winter. I want them to get big this year (small tree-size), and will start more Brugs to repeat the process, so I always have some, small & large!
