I'm so excited! I FINALLY have peafowl again! King George, Trixie & Honey are their names, I'll upload more pictures after we get home & settled in.
I have three new children! (peafowl)
jessaree...so jealous!!! i love peafowl...i have a male and female black shoulder and never get tired of their antics and their calls...virginia
Arent they just beautiful!!! I love the little head tassle things. (Just exposed my ignorance of peafowl) But I sure love to look!!! They are great!!
jessaree...what breed are they and what age? under a year?
Honey & King George are a nice couple!!!! LOVE it. :D
They are all three under a year old. They are mixed breed, but that really doesn't matter to me, I love them anyway. I was not looking for peafowl for making money, just wanted some to raise & enjoy their beauty.
Kenboy, maybe yours could find a home with Jessaree!!
What do you mean by mixed breed? They do not look to have any Java in them.
From the person I got the peafowl from...
"They are primarily blue India peafowl though one hen who is one of the mothers is white, though not albino."
Then they are all the same breed. White is only a color of the India Blue, as is Purple, Cameo, Bronze, etc... Black Shoulder, Pied and White Eyed are all color patterns. All of these colors and patterns can be mixed, so you could have a Purple Black Shoulder White Eyed Pied and it would still be the India Blue breed. The color you have is referred to as the Wild Type of the India Blue. The birds out of the White hen would be referred to as split to white, or heterozygous. Breeding a split to white to a split to white =1/4 White,1/2 split to white and 1/4 Wild Type carring no other color genes.
i see...so one shouldn't refer to a peacock as a breed but a color...gotcha...virginia
India Blue is a breed as well as a color, just as Java Greens are a breed and then there is the Congo peafowl. The India Blue is the only breed that has more than one color or pattern. Javas are not easy to find and the Congo are one of the rarest birds in the world. The only cross breeds are hybrids between the India Blues and the Java Green.
These are generally referred to as Spaldings.
