Can I put this plant in a terra cotta self watering pot?

do you know the real name of this plant? I've been looking for this plant for 5 years now. I had one that hung about 3 ft and was very full. It was one of my favorite plants with its orange/yellow "pinecones" all over the plant. I remember buying it from a guy at the albuquerque flea market at the fairgrounds. I bought plants from him all the time. I had to leave it behind when I made the move from albuquerque to MS. Now I can find it nowhere.

I don't off hand but if you look up pinecone bromeliad in the plant files the formal name is there, I think. I put my picture there bec. there wasn't one.

the correct name of your plant is Acanthostachys strobilacea. It is somewhat of an arid grower and would not need to be in a self watering pot. I have a very large one that I have had for many years now. They thrive on neglect.
