I love them, CR. What fun! I can't wait to see your new babies. How do you keep the different breeds from cross breedign? Don't you let them run free on your property?
Thanks all! :)
I think they're pretty cool too
and I'm lucky to find some.
Virginia...Please see my websites sale page if you want to go
on the waiting list.
Click on my name on the left then scroll down to my homepage link
Kell during the breeding season they're penned up to
prevent crossing colors.
Most of my pens are VERY big and grassy so even when they're
penned up its not so bad.
Once the breeding season is over then they go back to free ranging again.
You can see one of my pens in this pic.

Are you ever tempted to let them crossbreed for interesting mixes?
Not really because thats commonly done and you mainly end up with pieds (bi-colors) so I stick with the solid colors and variations or ripples.
BTW Kell, what are you doing on the poultry forum?
Are you going to get some barnyard birds?
I saw you on the latest posts list and bopped over to see your rare birds. I love looking at all your geese.
I love birds. I would love some wild birds. I always loved looking at Crestedchik's (CC) fancy chicks too. I would love some but have no room!
Kell why don't you get some indoor caged birds?
SHOOT CR, I have a parrot who is a perpetual 2 year old. So spoiled he screams at me to do his bidding. Want him? I got him as a baby when my boy was leaving for Stanford, to fill my void. What a mistake. I am thinking I have had him for about 9 years and will have him till the day I die. What a terrible thought. LOL
LOL!!! What kind of parrot? Does he talk?
No parrots for me...I know some people love them but they're too loud, messy and destructive for me.
Over the years though we've had parakeets, lovebirds, cockatiels, finches and doves and really enjoyed them. :)
Sewincircle, Macho Baby is an Indian Ringneck. And he talks a blue streak, very smart actually. But if he sees me eat, he screams till I give him some. If I am on the phone he screams till I get off and pay attention to him. He hears me as soon as I make a sound in the morning then starts screaming out his mating call to me. He really drives me nuts. When he screams in bird I yell at him to talk English and he will sometimes otherwise I have to turn off the lights to get him to be quiet.
CR, I had the nicest parakeet, LarryBird. He was very quiet spoken. One day I realized he was repeating every word in Macho Baby's vocabulary but like they were all one word. It was a riot. When I got Macho Baby, I decided I needed to get LarryBird a mate to keep him more company so I got him LolaBird. LarryBird stopped talking. I thought it was because he was just busy with LolaBird. One day after 2 years of having Lola, I let them out as I usually did in the afternoons. They usually just stayed in the dining room flying around. Well my husband came home and opened the front door in the next room for just seconds and Lola sped thru to the next room and out that front door as if she had her escape planned for the 2 years. It was so funny for immediately LarryBird started talking a blue streak and made happy bird noises. It was then I realized poor LarryBird has hated LolaBird and was thrilled he had his cage back to himself. LOL.
LOL! LarryBird was henpecked! hehehe I love parrots but I am sure if I got one I would regret it. They are very high maintnance I suppose. They are indeed very smart. sigh. I hear you about him driving you crazy!!! They are large and make large demands on your time. Good luck with him. ;)
Kell what a FUNNY story about LarryBird. ;o))
That is just incredible!
I can just hear Larry..."Buh-Bye Lola!
Don't let the door slap you in the butt on the way out."
Update re. the duclairs...
the seller just backed out on me!
Grrr! I'm so ticked off!
I spent $38. to mail him the shipping
box and now he says he wants to keep
them and offered to sell me ducklings later this summer instead.
Well thats NOT the way I do business.
A deals a deal
He said he'd reimburse me for the shipping and send
back the box.
Thats going to cost him $76.!
Makes no sense to me what-so-ever!
So as for now...no duclairs for me. :(

Oh that is not nice!!!
I am so sorry.
man...that IS bad business...sorry cottage...hope you will find another breeder...virginia
Sewincirlce, I would advise anyone not to get a parrot unless you can really give it a full life where it can live close to a normal parrot life flying around. I know some will disagree wth me, but I think it is sad how a caged bird lives and it leads to very odd behavior. My bird is only happy when he is with me, preferably sitting on me. I fell terrible he has such a sad life. I am told he is too old now to integrate him with other birds and has been for years.
Oh CR, that is so not fair. What a disappointment. You were so happy! Plus you would have given them such a good and happy home. Are you not going to accept his offer for babies? I wonder if he saw this and realized how rare they are and felt he could sell the babies.
I hope he does send you your box back and your money you spent.
He called me on the phone today.
Its a complicated situation so I won't
go into details but I now understand why
it ended up this way and its OK.
I will get ducklings from him this year.
glad to hear it worked out...
Me too. I am glad there is no hard feelings.
Kell, I wont get one. I have my hands full at the time and probably, after everything you have said, I dont think I have the time to invest. I can admire them from a distance. They sound like a lot of work. I do love seeing them but I dont want to be resopnsible for a misirable bird, ya know? I go to school full time and will eventually work full time. Thanks Kell. Have a great day!
