Mini bloom hibiscus? anyone grow any minis?

Lindenhurst, NY

I think i'm going to like the minis and want to know if you have any you grow, and if you like them or not. thanks for any suggestions or recommendations.

I've grown and loved Itsy Bitsy for years. Although the flowers are smaller, the plant does get tall if you let it. It makes a great standard too. Mine is in the ground and I am just praying it survived our recent freezing weather.

hi ardesia. i'm going to look up itsy bitsy to see what it looks like. thanks and i hope it survived the freezing weather.

'Chad' has small blooms too.

Itsy Bitsy is on the right. One on the left is one of those variegated ones, Snow Queen maybe? It is always hard to capture true reds with a camera but IB is just an amazing color. My outside plant does not look good; I just scraped the bark to see if there was any green and there wasn't. I do have a cutting started thankfully. We got down to 29 here on Thursday b ut I think the real problem was two weeks ago when it had been in the high 70's and dropped suddenly to around 30.

Hi maureenpm00, when you say minis what size is the bloom, I usually classified mine as small, medium, big, and giant size. From what I've notice, the small and medium ones I have produce more blooms than the big and giant ones, its like if what they lake in size they compensate in quantity. This is a picture of what I call small bloom ( around 3" across ), don't know its name, when I brought it it didn't have one, they usually don't have names on any of the plant they sell at any of the garden shop or nurseries down here.

wilfred that is a stunning hibiscus. I love the shape and color. Wish I knew the name.
I was told by a hibiscus grower/supplier that the mini's do have more blooms.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I'd like to find that one myself.

Those are both real beauties, Ardesia and Wilfred!

I grow some that I'm sure are mini's, others I'm not sure whether they are or not. I tried to find a working database with classification info on Google, but didn't have much luck.

The ones listed are definitely considered minis, and may be of interest to you?

Here's one of my very favorite minis, released just last year.

Blue Ballerina.

Almost positive that Antique Treasure is considered a mini.

And the last one I'm sure about is Bluebird.

Thanks :-) I am so fickle, and love them all "best" on different days, lol!

Bunches of pretties!!! Erin rachael is a good bloomer and usually very easy to grow. Antique treasure is a mini. Karen you were right. I love Zoey. Always had good luck with it and molten lava as well. Snow queen is a great one as well and being variegated makes it even prettier.

Oh wow, they are all beautiful. Antique Treasure is a "gotta have it". Did you see all the buds just waiting to open; they were hiding behind the flower. Wow again!

Kure Beach, NC(Zone 9a)

I have Erin Rachel and she's a real trooper. Blooms endlessly and the plant is a nice bushy form.
I crossed Predisent with er and got this little one. I'm calling her Pukin' Happy, since that's how happy I was that I managed to get one to grow from seed, then bloom and it was a pretty bloom!

Uh Barb, how happy are you????? :-)

A very pretty bloom for sure!

Beach Barbie - that blooms is amazing! How long did it take to go from seed to bloom?

Kure Beach, NC(Zone 9a)

About one year to bloom. Almost lost the plant last winter when I overwatered it. Used a 10% bleach solution and it bounced back. It hadn't bloomed yet; I'm glad I managed to save it.
I was kinda iffy about the name, but the folks on a hibiscus Yahoo group said, go for it! After all, there is a cultivar called Pond Scum.

LOL, so true. :-)
