Hydrangeas

(Lynn) Paris, TX(Zone 7b)

I was about to order some Endless Summer hydrangeas when I noticed it said full sun to partial shade. Is this correct? My space is more like very partial sun to full shade. I've had hydrangeas there before that I ordered online, but they shipped the wrong ones, and of course it was the next year before I knew. Just never did anything about it.

Maybe I shouldn't try to Endless Summer?

In the north they can grow hydrangeas in full sun, not here :0) I have a few of the Endless Summer, they only get a few hours of morning sun. They're easy from cuttings. If your not in a hurry to fill a large space, you could order one then propagate the rest.

Ditto cocoa, no full sun for hydrangeas in Texas. I haven't bought an Endless Summer yet, but I do have one of the older mop head types (only blooms on last year's growth) that I have nursed along. It gets dappled sun and does fine. They are kind of hard to grow in Houston' heat and humidity, but I've been told if you nurse them for 2 years, after that they do better. I know if that's true this year. If it makes it, I'm going for some Endless Summer. Let us know how your's do, please. I've tried them in pots, but not had any long term success with that. My 2 yr is in the ground.

I really like the hydrageas and have tried several types. I find them to be easy to root from cuttings. I grow several mop heads, lace caps, the var. one and oak leaf. Oak leaf is my favorite as they grow large and add nice color year round. This variety prefers more shade.
In general it seems like the more shade the less blooms but the more sun the less growth and more wilt in the heat of summer. I guess you must find the happy medium and they do well. I had this ideal area but had to remove a large tree so we will see this year as the area will now get more sun.
