the power was out for 1 week . it got to 40 maybe lower in the house . the brugs that i started in sept had lots of new growth . now some are all wilty on the new growth. how do save them . cut the wilty parts off ? leave it alone . are they dead ?

Don't cut anything now, but I would cut down on watering since the plants won't be taking up as much water. If there was any root damage, too much water would encourage root rot. Keep the soil barely most. Instead I would raise the humidity around the tops if possible. Wait until new growth starts to do any pruning. Even if the tops die down to the soil, don't be in a hurry to toss them out. If the root system is alive, there is still a possibility the new shoots will emerge from the underground stem. I've had new growth emerge months after the tops died down.

I hope they're all OK iris!

They will be all right if it didn't get any colder for an extended time. Mine overwinter in a plant shelter where the temps stay cool. The foliage will shed and sprout anew. I leave the dead leaves on till they drop on their own and then dispose of them. The stalks will normally stay green and resprout. A hard freeze would kill the stalk to the soil level and even then, it will come back ~ just a bit slower.

So sorry you had to endure that and hope spring is coming your way soon!

thanks every one , one has already sent a shoot from under the dirt. im back to square one .they all had awesome leaves .its funny that some wernt touched at all . it was around freezing for a week inside. the ones that survived unharmed were southern belle , painted lady x daydreams , zena, peach perfekton they are all in the same spot as the ones that had varying degrees of wilt .
