Ants in Hummingbird Feeders

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

I am new to feeders this year, but have friends that have complained about ants getting in their feeders. I saw an "ant trap" that you fill with the water and hang above the feeder. Do these work? If not, what do you do?

I filled my ant trap with powdered ginger.... no more ants!

Thank you. I can certainly give that a try. I have enough issues with ants without feeding them the good stuff!

There are a lot of feeders with built in ant moats like this humzinger. Then you can buy ones that are usable with any feeder. They all work great if you keep water in them.

I rub a generous dollop of petroleum jelly on the feeder hanger, and it works like a charm, never had a problem since I started doing it. Good Luck!

Petroleum jelly on the hanger works great.
