A few from Southern California

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

Well, most of my hibiscus aren't looking too sharp, as is usual in winter. And some definitely won't live until Spring.

But, over the last two weeks, I have had a few nice blooms. A couple have been very small versions of what they usually are. And also, please disregard the surrounding areas of old freckled hands, dead plants, weeds, etc. I'm just glad to see any color in my yard at all right now ;-)

First one is Art Colony.

Definitely looking really good compared to here! This one's from yesterday--photo and bloom not looking the best, but it did freeze here the night before last. This is one of many slips in half gallon squares being "hauled in and out" every other day....

Definitely a pretty bloom, DMJ :-)

Thanks!--I'm sure it will look a lot better in summer. Poor things been hauled in and out so much it doesn't know if its a houseplant or a hibiscus by this point in the winter (lot of freezes here this winter).

Oh my, they are all so pretty. Curly Top is calling me tonight; those dark salmon colors are my favorites.

amarantha those pics are amazing. They are all blooming now? How many do you have?

My faves are:
Belle de Jour.
Cajun blue
Dark Nebula
Dragon Fly
Lady bug
Night Vision
Party hound

Really enjoyed the pics.

do you grow blue bayou or silver memories?

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

Hi Maureen :-)Yes, I grow Silver Memories, but don't have Blue Bayou.  Thanks for the nice compliment!!  Yes, the blooms are from the last two weeks.  I have 200+ tropical hibiscus cultivars, all in pots.  Some aren't looking too good right now, but others have bloomed like it's spring - go figure!  Lady Bug is an extremely prolific bloomer and a quickly growing plant.  This is the first "winter" she's gone through, and she's blooming and holding up great so far.  Night Vision - the picture is of my very first bloom.  Cajun Blue and Belle de Jour bloom lots too, and both plants are quite large.  Dark Nebula I picked up last spring, and I'm totally into the bloom - it's very different.  Party Hound bloomed terrifically for me in spring, but didn't seem to like our 100+ degree bone dry summers much.

I have a photo website www.amarantha.phanfare.com  It hasn't been updated since early fall, with the exception of adding Dragonfly and Night Vision.  But you can definitely see a large variety of my favorite flower, the tropical hibiscus :-) If you have some spare time, and like pictures of plants (probably to the point of boredom, lol), turn on your speakers and enjoy my slideshows :-)

Thanks, Ardesia :-) Curly Top's colors are darker in winter. I think I like the spring/summer coloration the best, but I'm just glad to have blooms right now ;-)

amarantha00, your photos are wonderful! Would you consider adding them to the PlantFile entries? I've done some work on the Hibiscus entries today and I noticed lots of entries that really could use some beautification. :)
