Hairless Chickens

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

My SIL calls me tonight and asks if I ever heard of such a thing.. well of course not.. so she tells me to look it up.. here is what I found..

Oh my gosh.. it would really be like watching dinner run across the yard. I don't think, even with the no more plucking I could raise hairless chickens.

Gosh that'd make life so much easier for those that raise them for meat. HA!

Poor thing! Can you get it some clothes?!?!

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I think God gave them feathers for a reason. What is with the pink skin?

I think that's the saddest thing I have ever seen. Well no, someone brought me a hairless possom once. We called him Chernobyl. He was sadder looking and the chicken at least looks smarter.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

LOL

DH says, that terrible... get that thing a sweater and it should be illegal!

ROFL!!!

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

They were developed for broilers. Yup, it was done on purpose. I want to say China began this but I could be wrong. I just read an artical on it. yuck! Their skin is very sensitive also. (burns easy) Its just wrong. :(

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

I agree its wrong.. I still see dinner running across the yard.. poor naked thing.

I also read they need to be in a constant 70 degrees. So very sad. I think they look like they have tall leather black boots on.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

That is funny to look at, but sad to think about.. Poor thing!

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Was there a pun in there "the skin is very sensitive and burns easily". I like mine extra crispy!

Brookville, PA(Zone 5a)

i sure wouldnt want those ugly things running around my yard..geez, poor things

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Can somebody please explain the pink skin. It looks fake like they were dyed. I couldn't cook a pink chicken!

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

not sure about the pink skin Lisa.. the article calls it red.. I think it's just what they came up with as a result of the cross.

Kent, WA

poor thing!!!!!:(

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

It looks like a flamingo.

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

omgosh! Don't give that poor thing a mirror! That has got to be the strangest thing I've seen in a long time!

(Zone 7b)

OH That poor chicken.. That is just wrong looks like somebody plucked him then put him under a sun lamp. Somebody needs to get that roo some sun screen LOL

Newton, AL

I thought it was a stuffed one. UUUGGGHHH that thing is awful. See what happens when you tamper with the way God ment for things to be. Yuck.

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

I'm thinking that's fake.
I googled it and the site I found was from 6 years ago and it's a discussion board.
If that breed had been around for 6 years, CMoxon or Harmony would have some already.
Moodene would have tailored little outfits for it. Silkiechik would have it embroidered on a shoulder bag.
And sewin would be angling for eggs for some.

Come ON... LOL

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

Oh, and Haystack would be in trouble with his DW for looking at naked hens...

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I think it needs 1 of those saddles, anything would help. I had a basset hound a while back that got almost entirely shaved do to surgery. My mom looked at that nearly naked dog and with a really straight face said "now I know why God gave them fur, so we don't have to look at that!" That's what this chicken needs is feathers. I thought naked rats were bad.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

That is just tooo funny! I mean, I still feel sorry for them.. but found myself wondering if they could survive here.. LOL

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

So it was not China, it was Isreal. Thanks LL for the video.
Either way, they just look wrong.
Jay you crack me up! ZZ you dooo live in a warm climate!!! hmmmmm

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Yeah, it's warm here, but I think it's a bit TOO warm.. I'd go broke buying sunscreen.. LOL Oh man.. I couldn't resist.

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh, that is just not right.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I bet it would be easier to get it to keep a diaper on.. LOL

I'll quit now.. LOL

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Wait a minute.. No I won't..

I was thinking that you could have a huge tattoo put on it.. that way you could always identify it.. Like.. "If found, please return to... " LOL

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

If someone found it they wouldnt know what to do or what it was!!! LOL

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Z, I think you are spending WAYYY to much time thinking about this chicken.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Are you suggesting I lost the goggles? LOL

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

haystack,
You reminded me of this guy that popped on the forum one time to scold us for always teasing him with titles like, "cute chicks", "show girls", etc...

If only this thread was titled "naked chick ens"... I'm sure he'd pop on again and give us a hard time. hehe

Winston Salem, NC

so in a hot sunny climate, what do you do to protect it from the sun? Doll clothes, and a tiny hat?

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

unfortunately yep that is real, they have been around for awhile now, i've seen pics of them off and on the last few years. http://www.animals-pictures-dictionary.com/rec/296-Hairless-Joe-Chicken/

nope, i'd not have it embroidered, lol. i'd get me some eggs and hatch em and keep em as house chickens and croche them snuggly wuggly kwose. poor things look like flamingoes in socks, lmao. i'd love em squeeze em and show them they was just like any other chickens out there, that they still need loved too.

all kidding aside though i actually feel sorry for them..... i saw someone asked for hatching eggs for them a few mths back on byc, lmao um we don't got them here in the us......

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

You know, they way mankind messes with their food, it's a wonder that we are still alive at all. With all the genitic engenering involved, maybe they would eventually cause total baldness in the people who eat them. Wouldn't that make a great si-fi movie? We are what we eat taken to the extreme!

(Zone 7b)

Jyl Thats a valid point you have there i too wish they would stop messing with our food. I have always believed that so many of the cancers today are somehow linked to our food. Not to mention has anyone read the food labels most all the food we eat has some sort of sweetener in it or MSG.
MSG gives me migraines and makes me feel strange and i check all labels for sugar content and MSG.
Did you know that almost all chips and soups contain MSG?
Have you looked at the ingredient list on a simple bag of frozen French fries or other potato products?
I told my DH i said why all the ingredients its just a potato!

I just saw on TV today where they are finding more and more fish full of pieces plastic and garbage!
