I just bought a Hoja Santa that I intend to keep in a pot and need some advice. I have read that it has quite high water requirements. Does anyone have any experience with growing one in a pot? Can it take poor drainage or boggy conditions? I was thinking about keeping it in a pot with no drainage hole, but don't know if that would kill it.
Also, I know that it can take shade, but does anyone know exactly how deep of shade it can tolerate?
Thanks!
Dennis
Hoja Santa
My next door neighbors have some in an old heirloom pot with no holes in it on their front porch--their house faces south, but is mostly shaded except for about 3 hours a day (usually late afternoon sun). I don't personally grow it--but if I need some I ask and they give (I grow them cilantro).

I have a huge spread of this growing beneath my banana trees and with my yerba mate tree. I have moved it a couple of times and it keeps springing back up from the original sites. The first place was in partial sun next to the hose bib. This is where I keep getting baby plants from. Now I have it in the permanent spot under the bananas. It gets just a bit of sun, most definitely in a shady spot. It is not in wet soil, in fact it is dry most of the time, and is thriving. Several plants are very tall, between 4-5'. Hope this helps.
