help! last year I planted some raspberries sort of near the vegetable garden. The veggies grew ok but not great. When I turned over the veg. garden in the fall, the raspberry roots had spread all the way across - about 10 feet (with new shoots every 8 inches or so). Anyone got any advice? I'd like to be able to grow both raspberries and veg, and only have so much space to work with.
raspberries taking over
Raspberry roots remain relatively shallow. If the spreading is a problem, you can always put in a root barrier such as used by people growing bamboo. Put in heavy duty plastic (such as a piece of pool liner) underground down to about a foot. It's not that hard to do and plastic underground lasts a very long time. I wish I had your problem as mine don't spread nearly that fast.
Definitely a problem I wish I had too..
Why not trade some starts for plants you don't have..?
