I wanted so much to see the Fruit Loop Toucan while I was in Belize for a VERY brief 6 hour. Never did see the brightly colored one but did see this Collared Aracari Toucan
Collared Aracari Toucan
Well he's beautiful too!
Before I was really into birds I was vacationing in Mexico and went to a wildlife park. I was surprised how many different types of Toucans there were.
That was a great shot for only having six hours! I'm planning to go there in a couple of years, and I too want a pic. of Toucan Sam. Tho' I would be just as glad to get a shot like yours.
I knew that having just a port call in Belize would limit my time birding so prior to departing home I connected with a wildlife tour guide in Belize and asked him a price to take myself and my cousin who was visiting from France on a 6 hour birding/nature trip. He met us at the dock and whisked us off to a wonderful day. The price for the guide, vehicle, food and drink was a VERY reasonable $60 each. Due to the time constraints we didn't get to really get into the jungle nor did I get to see the Jaribu storks that I really wanted to but we had an excellent day and I added so many new birds to my life list.
A neat "non-bird" thing that I saw on that shore excursion were these leafcutter ants.
