CLOSED: Plain Brown

San Andres, Peten, Guatemala

No idea about this one. No colour so probably female. Looks like an insect in the beak.

The tree on which this bird is perched is not really a tree but a gigantic fast growing plant with a hollow trunk. A species of ant makes it home. We normally chop it down and my gardener pulls a face when asked to do so. He is quite amusing to watch as he dances around trying to get the ants out of his pants and shirt.

Wow I'm not having any luck finding a Central,South American website and it's taking too long to go through a gallery of thousands of photos.

Guess it's time for me to buy a book.

Unfortunately, I don't have anything for Central America either. If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say an Icterid of some sort (grackles, etc.).

I am starting to think that the bright orange early morning Sun has given a false colour to the bird and that this is a female Great-Tailed Grackle. A local resident.

Looks to me like a Clay-colored Robin, which is found in Guatemala.
