My Mom was asking me this morning how to grow in a bale. She was an avid farmer for most of her life but has not grown anything the last few years due to health problems. She is 78 and wants to grow her a few veggies this year. She was very impressed with my tomatoes in the bales. Wish her luck!

Cajun: good morning to you, and I want to encourage your Mama to join the bale gardening club!

Can't wait to see some pics of her 1st bale garden.

I've already started calling around for some straw. I want to get my supply early this year. With the slow down in building and landscaping, it shouldn't be hard to find as much as I want this year.

I have a few friends helping me look for folks with moulded bales that need a new home. LOL

Yaaaaay! My Friend ,has located old "bottom" bales at one of the horse barns she cleans! They are perfect! She was asked to get rid of them in preparation for the new bales coming in! She called me immediately, HOOOOOOray! For a little trading , hardly any money , except of course , gas money, for her transporting, I have access to at least twenty bales!!!!!! COME ON SPRING!!!!!!!
Good going Cajun , your Mom and I are going to learn this together!

Kent , Stay close we are going to be asking a lot of questions!!

You lucky duck! What a score. I haven't got any leads on any yet but I'm hopeful. Saying my prayers too.

I'm hanging in here looking for info too. Stuck with straw bales instead of hay bales. Got chickens roosting on them now, but I'm thinking of inoculating them with chicken poo before I start watering...

For all you newbie bale gardeners just read back through the threads to learn a LOT just like I did last year. Now I am a believer!!!

Hey Jnette, I spoke with Sally and she and her DH are doing well. She lost her Brother a couple of weeks ago , she seems to be at ease now about that! She is such a wonderfully strong person. She cant wait to get back to Georgia and get started gardening again.

Thanks so much for the update. She had such gorgeous tomatoes last year I'll bet she can't wait to get started again.

So sorry to hear about her brother. That's tough.

Jeanette
