I need a tool that will dig, with an edge that will cut bags, cut roots out of the ground and things like that.
I saw something like that online at Walmart, but I am not sure about quality.
Does anyone have a tool like this and where can I get a high quality one online?
I've learned not to buy cheap tools that fall apart when I need them the most.
What's your favorite multi-purpose tool for gardening?
Pugzley, my favorite tool, with which one can do all those things, was mentioned on an old Voting Booth thread. Here is the original post with photo:

Later on in the thread, look down toward the new posts of last fall, I posted about it and then some kind person searched out a few online sources, so I bought myself one (used to have one years ago)
Anyway, this is my recommendation. The edge is not that sharp, but one could easily sharpen it, and even as it is I think it would cut into bags. It surely does most else quite nicely!
You might want something more -- er, specialized? than this, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Not pricey at all.

The tool is a mattock - every gardener should have one, they are truly multi-purpose.
For cutting, you just can't beat scissors! I carry a small pair (like kid-sized, but sharp) with me while working outside; they don't take much room - fit in a pocket.
You mean besides my hands and teeth? ^_^

check Tractor supply if you have one nearby. paid about $9 for both of mine, cant live without them!
that should have read $9 for EACH of mine
I got ripped off, mine are nowhere near that nice, both had wooden handles, had to sharpen them.
POOEY thats what I get for impulse shopping lol

Rotfl! Good one.
I was just in Lowe's today, darn it. I'll pick up one of these little goodies next weekend when I can get back up there.
Yep, on the scissors, too. Been making use of them the past few days when cutting open potting mediums etc.
