Vacations Over: New Fuzzy Butts Arriving Daily

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

John & Sara have had a very busy winter and even at the 30 + below temps they still managed to keep warm... The old fashioned way.. they snuggled!

And here in the chicken world, we only have to sit and wait 21 days.

So we are here to present my first intentional bred pair of Japanese Black-Winged White Bantums, so far we have 2 babies, one born yesterday morn, and the second born this am.. there are 5 more to go. Oddly enough, they have showed no signs of being fertile. I tried to candle them and came up blamk, but waited them out anyway.. Glad I did.. they pip, zip and hatch in about an hour..

Love the first pic. That on the right is looking at me as though to say "yeah and what's your problem". Two cute.

thank you all.. I find it so odd that even having the very same breed, with the same parents, each chick has such a different identity and even color.

I have no idea how, or if, you can tell male/female with these guys at this age, but the first born was very pale in comparison to the second, the second has a lot of dark down the center of the back starting at the head and going all the way to the tail. And the second is much smaller than the first. AND the first finally stopped cheeping when the second was born.. oh my.. #1 chick was the noisiest thing I have ever heard!

We have a third pip.(no zip yet, just an airhole). just noticed it a little bit ago, so should have a chick whithin the hour.
