Torenia / Whishbone Flower for Hummingbirds?

Macon, GA(Zone 8a)

Greetings all --

I sometimes see Torenia listed as a popular Hummingbird flower. Can any tell me if they actually like it? Has anyone had experience with the two most commonly available hybrids Duchess and Clown?

Thanks for the help!

I put out Torenia every year for my ruby-throated hummers. They prefer the deep blue/deep purple flowers; do not like the yellow Torenia. Also remember, the more hybrid the plant the less nectar is passed along to the new species, which means the hummers will eventually pass on hybrids when looking for nectar. Hummers also don't like the hybrid-double blooms; too hard to get to the nectar.

Thanks for your reply -- it's good to know that at least your hummers like it!

I've decided to try Torenia Duchess from seed this year. I'll post back to the list in Summer if the variety turns out to be popular....
