Things I do when I can't garden

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Launch Hedgehogs - My best is 8 days .. I average 10 days

What do you do?

LOL

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

I gotta go check our your hedgehog thing...
Meanwhile. I take pictures mostly. Specially of anything green that's showing it's face in the garden. :)
Deb

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Just spend 12 minutes launching hedghogs. I bought goggles for mine. Didn't help. need practice. :)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I spend way too much time with Freecell.

Nothing green to take pictures of here; the deer polished off everything the cold did not get. Amaryllis, agapanthus, iceland poppies, lilies, daffs, you name it, they ate it.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Is it possible to make a scarecrow that would scare deer?

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Lol .. the goggles are just cool looking .. the most important things are upgrading the launcher and the band before you upgrade anything else as those two things are critical for altitude, then the rocket pack and E-Rocket which gives you a boost for altitude. I don't even bother with the parachute or radar.

As to scaring deer, I vaguely remember a motion detector for a sprinkler or something that shoots water at whatever is moving. Might work on deer.

Well I just tried again and got him into orbit in 9 days.

So there is life beyond gardening? LOL, I'm gonna have to check this hedgehog game out.

Other non-gardening hobbies include web development and photography.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

WooooooHooooooo! I just beat my old record .. got him launched in FIVE days!!!!

Man I'm bad then - took me 41 days, LOL

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Lol .. actually when I first started, it was taking me over a month to get him into orbit. I've been playing for a while .. use the left and right rockets to turn him in the other direction so he hits the platforms and when he hits a platform give him a quick rocket boost in what ever direction he's going before he starts to go down.

X

Lexington, SC(Zone 8a)

I was on day 30 before I figured out the arrow keys and the rockets, lol - I should have read the directions more closely.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Don't feel bad .. I didn't read closely enough too .. took awhile before I realized it.

X

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Oh, so they're platforms! LOL. See, I'm a directions reader, too. :)
Mine's not made it to orbit yet.
D

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Yeah .. I think the colors tell you how much force the platforms have .. to me it seems the yellow one are really strong .. seem to gain more altitude when I hit the platforms.

Lexington, SC(Zone 8a)

This is addictive, lol. And the music makes it more addictive. Unlike the Yodeling throw Santa game - that just gets annoying after 5 minutes.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Well it took me 15 days to get this one in orbit. ... Note the stylish goggles. I could have done it in 13 days but decided to practice using the right n left jets. The longer you stay in the air the more money you get as well and I like the music too.

I'm always "gardening" because I "treated" (cursed?) myself with a GH when I retired. It has proven to be every joy that I anticipated, but WAY more work than I anticipated! Then I do NCAA Sports...I'm a pure Tar Heel, so I HAVE to follow them in all sports. Then there's the inevitable maintenance of the equipment necessary to sustain the place (grossly underestimated this one!), and repair/maintenance of the homestead itself. By the time I get finished with all that stuff, I may have time to do Daves Garden, but usually I just crash...

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

LOL, my father is about ready to call it quits on the homestead maintenance. He doesn't really have anything he has to do so I don't really see the problem. Apparently he's had it with the lawn mower.

Here's some more free games for you. http://www.gametap.com/

I play cards on yahoo.com. Usually spades. Lately I've been playing the Wii. Took me 8 months to actually track one down to buy and then held it for the kids till Christmas. Anyone who hasn't checked out the Wii you really need to. The sports games are fun. Bowling is very realistic so are most of the games. If you're really into it you can connect the Wii to your wireless network and play people from around the world. Add a mic and you can talk **** while you play. LOL. I haven't done all that but I did have a Wii party with some neighbors, they were impressed.

Other than that if I get bored I try to get some kid around here to put on a invisible fence collar. They don't seem brave enough to try that.....yet. It's a matter of time before I get one of them to try it out. Is that mean???

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Ha! I saw that blurb in the paper about the guy who put his kids in the Invisible Fence collar but I didn't know it was you who was arrested. How is the food in the hoosegow?

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Eeek! Those things are up there with bark collars .. cruel in my book.

when it's too cold to tidy up outside (which seems to be never ending, I gotta tell ya) I work on the interior of the house. for xmas the BF bought me new kitchen counter tops - wow talk about a difference! We had bought some tile at an aution so I did a tiled backsplash, now I need to tile behind the stove to really tie it all in.

We got a new jacuzzi at that auction too (home builder going out of biz) $60 brand new with a heater....now if I could just convice the BF to help me install that....LOL...probably have to use some of my tax refund to hire an electrician to wire it up...but ahh the joy of working outside and then soaking in a jacuzzi....it makes me feel better already LOL

We also got wood flooring at that auction ($15 dollars for enough to do my 10 yr olds room!) so thats next, we also have enough plank flooring to do a 300sq ft area - (that was $40) oh and we got new windows there too $5 apiece...is that crazy!! still trying to figure out which ones i want where and if they'll fit this old house but if we can't use them I bet we could sell them at the flea market...

anyways...thats what I 'try' to do when it's too cold to enjoy outside...that and dream of what I am going to plant this year :)~

d

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

I could use some cheap wood flooring. How come I never find deals like that? I would have taken the Jacuuzzi too.

Food wasn't bad Alice. Jury is still out on whether it was right or wrong to do. LOL> Not like I didn't try it out first.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I have jacuzzi envy .. I love hot water.

X

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

How on earth did you get that stupid thing into orbit in 5 days???? Your first shot would have to earn you thousands of dollars??? Fastest I've hit is 20 days.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

13 days.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

It was certainly a fluke .. I was able to keep bouncing off of platforms .. that's what did it .. the last one i played took 12 days .. that's the thing .. keep him airborne and moving for as long as possible.

Selma, NC(Zone 7b)

I've been playing on Cafepress and Zazzle with my garden photos. It is very addictive- especially Zazzle because they make it a peer friendly place to post.

Keonikale- do you do any POD?

Deb- if you haven't tried it you would love Zazzle.

Shari

BTW my links are on my Member Page;)

Lexington, SC(Zone 8a)

POD means so many things now, can you clarify? I always think of Print on Demand when I hear that now, we started our first books that way and it's stuck in my head.

Re: Cafepress/Zazzle - I agree both are great. We used Cafepress to do most of the artwork in our home of photos we've taken but didn't want to pay a fortune getting printed. We probably did the whole house for a fraction of the price that a photo studio would have charged.

Selma, NC(Zone 7b)

Yes- Print on Demand. I have so much fun creating and posting new things that I can't make myself do what's necessary to promote it:( Maybe in time I'll make a little $ from it,lol.

Lexington, SC(Zone 8a)

We started with POD through Cafepress, and then moved to Booksurge (in Charleston, SC - owned by Amazon) and then to Lightning Source (owned by Ingram). Eventually we moved to traditional press after POD became too expensive (color, quantity, etc). If I had it to do all over again, I'd stick with eBooks. After publishing five ecotourism books, I'll check that off as done and never try it again, LOL. eBooks are SO much easier to update, publish, and distribute.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

This is getting all to high brow for me.

I posted on Yahoo once???

I actually came up under a Google search for something I had written. LOL. Those three lines were killer.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

LOL, Core. Your 15 minutes!

Too warm NOT to try to do something outside today. Created a new drip line out of an old worn out hose and laid it out.

Tidied up the beds a bit. Took much longer than necessary watering my little garage jungle, just to be amongst the green.

Pulled bunches of dandelions. ....and said encouraging things to the little bits of green poking up. :)

Deb

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

Just checked out Zazzle. Hmmmm, I could have coffee mugs with my smiling face on them. Great Christmas presents especially to people I don't like much. LOL> Can't say they're cheap.

Columbia, SC

I'm so plant-obsessed that when I'm not in the garden, I'm reading about gardening.

I like to make lists of current lusts from catalogs and then create Word documents with pertinent information and photos.
