My Photo Made Birds & Bloom

I took this photo and sent it to Birds & Bloom Magazine. You can see it on Page 61 of the Feb/March issue. I couldn't believe they used it!

Here's another one I took of the same little hummer. He was so cute. I hope you like it...

I can't believe it held still! I've had hummers for the first time this year and they generally buzz by me on the way to the porterweed and then hustle back to the oak tree. It's nice to see one that isn't a blur, lol!

Ooohhhh, that photo really stood out to me when I saw it in the magazine, no kidding!! I was wondering how the photographer was able to get the throat to show so well. The way the hummer is sitting in the plant is adorable. Love that it sat in your hand too!

What kina of camara do you have? What lens were you using?

I use a Canon PowerShot SD950 IS. It has a very good resolution. It's a small little point and shoot camera with the standard lens that comes with the camera. Basically this bird was tired and I was able to get close enough to use the Macrophotography setting. It was amazing. It's the only time in my life that I got that close without scaring the little birds.

How long did it take from the time you submitted it til they told you...or you found out about it?
Did they let you know by e-mail 1st that they were going to use it? Or did you see it in the magazine 1st?

Susan - I submitted it in July of 2008. They didn't tell me it was going to be published. My Aunt called me and said, "Your picture is in Birds & Bloom!"

The funny thing is I had the issue of Birds & Bloom with my own pic in it and didn't even notice my own photograph! I had it for a couple of weeks before I knew it was in it! LOL. I'm glad my aunt noticed it otherwise I might still not know it was in the magazine. I've been busy lately with distraction after distraction so I don't have time to sit and look at the magazines like I'd like.

I keep my camera with me all the time. You never know when you are going to come across something beautiful to capture.
