Just wanted to mention my salad from last night. Lettuce has been growing since October, and there's still plenty of it. Added a few little buds of broccoli that were about to go to flower, a chunk of curly parsley and some garlic chives. Sprouts from my Johnny's Seeds sprouter, and I sprinkled on a few (bought) sunflower seeds and chopped pecans. Yuuummmmmmmmm...
If my garden keeps improving (thanks to DG) I wonder if one day I'll eat like that all the time? That's the plan, anyway! The way I'm salivating for a tomato sandwich, this had better be the last cold spell for the season!

Do you have those 'maters planted or potted, yet?
We have one lonely volunteer lettuce plant - I let last springs lettuce go to seed - just for fun and to learn. Probably will harvest it soon - don't want it to bolt.
Parsley is an interesting crop - it's a 2-year crop. Mine reseeded fabulously.
I have 'mater seedlings everywhere; they're done by June here as it gets so hot. I'm hoping this parsley, since it grew so well, will keep going but usually I can't get it to stay alive during the summer. I sowed it last September and am very proud of it.
I eat like that all winter--every winter
One of the nice things about living down here is I have been harvesting edible podded peas, lettuces (too many different varieties--LOL), carrots, turnips, spinich, toi choi, etc. since December 15th--I succesively sow down here; but stopped on winter-growers about the first of Jan. We've had about 6 hard freezes this winter--more than most years but it hasn't affected the vegetables. Still have broccoli and b sprouts growing but they aren't ready yet. Winter herbs are doing great (dill, fennel, parslies, cilantro--oregano + thyme + rosemary are still doing great from the summer).
we do sprouts inside too--got one for my kid for Christmas, she misses them so bad
=)
I've had so many freezes this winter that I don't even bother covering pots any more, unless it looks real bad. That gets old. Last night was 27.5° and didn't cover one thing...tough love. Tired of cold, then warm, etc. And it's like the desert here now, no rain! Sorry about the rant, grumpy older woman here. I had parsley everywhere last year, almost all went to seed, now very little. I think the parsley, cilantro and lettuce seeds are afraid of the new desert habitat, not much came up. I'm trying to look forward to spring.
no rain here either in so long we can't remember what it looks like
When the forecast says 20% in the Houston area - it usually means 20% of the area will see a few drops.
The office where I work will often get a downpour, but at home never a drop - and they are less than 10 miles apart.
we haven't had a drop since before Christmas--but the west side is traditionally the dry side too
