I've got my DVR set to record this one :-)

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Me too, and we watched it in Hi-Def. Very good program! My whole family sat here and watched; Dad was most impressed by the sheer numbers of Monarchs hanging from the branches.

Missed it! Maybe I can catch it on a repeat sometime.

A few years ago we went to Mexico to the mountains to see where the Monarchs had migrated to. What a TRIP!! In more ways than one. The sight of the Monarchs hanging there is unbelievable. At that time it was practically impossible to take a good picture of them hanging up there but it was a sight to behold. The other part that was the trip is, in retrospect, hilarious. At the bottom of the mountain you are put in open back truck w/ 4 long benches front to back - 1 on either side and then 2 back to back in the center. The only thing that holds you in is a length of rope across the back of the truck. It takes about an hour of the most grueling, dusty, slow, bumpy winding ride to get to the village up there and when you get there you are entirely covered w/dust -just filthy! Never mind. The first thing you want to do is use the WC. Don't know about the men but the women were given 2 squares of T-paper and told where their "seat" was. The toilets don't flush automatically. To flush the women in charge take a bucket of water in where you came from and they flush that way. A little crude but it works... Then you get to climb the rest of the mountain yourself. You make several stops because the air is getting very thin and even if you could breathe you really don't want to very much because you are still in the dusty dust. Once your get up there you are so happy to see the sight of the butterflies. Then it's time to head down again. No easier than going up. No less dusty. It takes about an hour to go up and less time to get down from that part of the mountain. When you get back to the village a cerveza is definitely what you want. You don't want to drink the water in Mexico, you know. That ice cold beer never tasted so good. Then it's back in the truck and down you go off the mountain completely. All in all the entire trip has taken somewhere somewhere near 3 hours. When we got back to the motel where we were staying the luggage hadn't reached the rooms yet so for dinner all the people from our bus arrived filthy dirty, sweaty and very tired at this wonderful restaurant. Yes, the way to see those butterflies is in a film of some sort and don't go on the trip up there unless your are muy loco.

Sheila,
Sorry to hear you missed it...I'm sure it will be replayed in the future :)

Ann,
Oh my, thanks for sharing that story!!! I bet all in all, it was a wonderful experience. I would have loved to have gone, dust, dirt and all. You are lucky to have seen something many of us in our lifetime will never see except on tv/video. I'd prefer the "live" version myself :)
Muy loco...ROFL...what a hoot!

ummm, Ann, thanks for THAT story. Now I'm glad I watched it on HD in the comfort of my home.
You can buy this show on DVD, or apparently online.

be sure to check out the "director's story"

Wow Ann, that sounds like quite the adventure! I must be muy loca, because that sounds almost fun to me....almost, but not quite. LOL. We have several areas where monarchs overwinter pretty near to where I live, so next time you want to see them clustered, maybe you can come out to CA instead (we have plenty of toilet paper here, I promise ;-)).

Sheila, I'm guessing they will rerun it at least several times, so I'm guessing you'll be able to catch it :-).

It's on again where I live!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

well don't forget that you can watch it online too.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

What time Linda?

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

It had just come on when I posted, Sheila. I was just flipping through the channels and happened to see it. I did like it! However, I felt like since they showed how the logging down in Mexico was such a problem, you'd think they would acknowledge that in our own country things are allowed that reduce the Monarch population quite a bit.

On my local listings, it'll be shown on the 2nd PBS station Nova at 12:30 Saturday afternoon and again at midnight. I have the "box" hooked up, so there's 4 PBS stations on broadcast TV. I notice that the TV listings in the newspaper hasn't yet caught up with that and it only shows one PBS station, so checking online listings (or just flipping through the channels) is the only way I can see what is on the other 3 PBS stations.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Isn't that crazy! Well I know if you got to http://www.tvguide.com/ you can plug in your zip code and then they'll ask you what TV provider you have and give you your lineup. So for those of you with on on screen guide, you can try it that way.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Linda, I will get it schelduled to DVR.

With Yahoo's online listings, I can edit the channels for the local broadcast channels to eliminate the ones I don't watch, then save my preferences. Since my home page is Yahoo, I usually use it, although tvguide.com is more helpful....by telling about the actual programs.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Tried several methods but couldn't locate another showing anywhere. We have charter here and use the TV listing link Mrs. Ed gave also. Then I went on line and tried to pull up the show on Nova, Kera, and PBS. Zip results. I will try again later in the week could be the difference in our areas.

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

I looked, too. Nada.

Well, I think even in our area NOVA is going to move on to a different program after today. I wonder if other areas have 4 PBS channels now with DTV. I know I was surprised to find out we had that many. It really helps, with the poor choices offered on broadcast TV these days (I especially hate the "reality" genre shows and will not ever watch them), to have those extra PBS channels to watch.

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Yup, I noticed four PBS channels in hi-def. It took me a minute to land on the right one for the butterflies.
