In California which grows most of our fruits and vegetables the situation has gone from bad to worse with an extended drought. Record produce prices are predicted. Farmers are having to choose between crops like lettuce or saving the higher value almond trees. Due to lack of irrigation water, thousands of acres are left fallow.

This is just one more good reason to eat local or grow your own. All parts of the country are vulnerable to natural disasters and we've got too many of our eggs in one basket in this case.

There was much discussion on this forum last fall about water becoming the new oil in the future and it seems the future is now.
