Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has had experience with what concentration of GA-3 to use on brugmansias to do the following:
Force Flowering / Increase # of buds
Germinate Seeds
Speed Growth
Gibberellic acid (GA-3)
I have used it to speed germination of seed.It did work but the resulting seedlings were weak and leggy.I have not tried it for the other uses. For those who want to experiment,
JL Hudson has it.
I've experimented with it and wasn't impressed with the results for brugs. I don't see it really increasing buds or forcing earlier bloom, maybe delaying it actually. Some brugs already have a tendancy to to want to grow too tall and leggy before putting out blooms, and that's what GA3 increases like JT said.
It also didn't help in seed germination because brugs don't have strong inhibitors like many seeds that can make them tough to germinate. They're either dead or alive, so if they're alive they will germinate without fancy seasonal temp/moisture changes or chemicals. If they're dead then GA3 can't do anything of course. All it did for my brug seeds was make stem elongation excessive, which resulted in floppy plants with more decapitations, so I had a higher mortality rate than without it.
I did like it though for some other harder-to-germinate seeds.

Great info! Thanks!
