We went down to Houston last saturday to visit our daughter and ended up helping out at the Urban Harvest fruit tree sale. I never stuff disappear so fast in my life. in about 2 1/2 hours they sold hundreds of fruit trees. Our daughter must have sold a hundred kumquat trees herself. If you have never been you should go some time. I think they are have another sale in Tomball this weekend.
I ended up with four blueberries. I planted them in rubbermaid tubs with holes drilled in the bottom and filled with peat moss. We will see what happens.
I planted 144 heirloom tomatoes today. I have room for about 10 plants but I couldn't help myself. I have 8 different varieties. If anyone in the San Antonio area is interested email me and I will let you know if I get any plants.

Accdoc ~ what type of soil did you use to plant the blueberries in?

I followed the advice in this article.
http://plantanswers.tamu.edu/publications/blueberries/blueberries.html
I used straight peat moss from Home Depot in 20-30 gallon rubbermaid tubs. I drilled holes in the bottom and about an inch up on the sides. The article says to make your own peat bog so I am watering them frequently.
The need slightly acidic soil and we have nothing but limestone so I plan to keep them in the tubs. In east Texas you should have good soil for blueberries. I also got two different varieties because they need different varieties to produce well, at least that is what the tags said.

Thanks for the information and the link. I tried some quite a few years ago but was only meagerly successful. All those bushes have gone on to that huge garden in the sky. There are however, some blueberry farms around here that do well. They are in a different soil that I have. I have gone and picked from them in the past. The soil in your location was why I was curious. Thanks again. Please keep us posted on your successes.
Montgomery County Master Gardeners are having their sale on Saturday, and Arbor Gate is on Sunday! Hope ya'll buy lots!
