Many of our wild vines, which climb over just about everything, have been in flower for a while but most of the flowers have not been mentionable. We discovered this one this morning. It was high up and we had to hack the undergrowth to be able to photograph it.
I can't remember seeing this one before.
A pretty vine.
Looks like some sort of a Clitoria pea vine.
Many thanks, that is the one. We will clear the area for easier access and possibly try for some seeds later,
It's a beautiful vine - sadly, mine got frozen last night!
Sadly I have been watching your weather, below freezing in Miami, incredible.
We are only at 75° f today but will be back up to 80° f tomorrow, I hope that you warm up soon.
Thanks - I hope so, too!
I really don't think it's a Clitoria, to me the flowers are not the right shape. It looks virtually identical to this picture of Phaseolus caracalla http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/5202/ Clitoria doesn't have the two large separate petals that Phaseolus does, it looks more like one large petal with the little curlicue thing in the middle. Here's a pic of Clitoria so you can see what I mean http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/2997/
I agree with you, it is Phaseolus caracalla. People recommend full Sun and they complain it is invasive. My present vines grow in the woods with dappled shade.
We will see what the seeds do in a location with more light.
By pure coincidence I ordered some Vigna Caracalla seeds about 10 days ago, they were very expensive. They should be here in the next couple of days.
